I was just wondering if anyone had any information or statistics about women that have gone thru menopause having WLS.   Is their weight loss the same as premenopausal women?  Are there added benefits to the woman that has gone thru menopause and had WLS???

Any info would be GREAT!!
thanks guys!

I don't have any statistics for you or know about the average post menopausal woman. I can only tell you about my experience.
I went through surgical menopause several years ago. I had my RNY just over 13 months ago and have lost 129 lbs. I still have about 40-50 more pounds that I would like to lose and the weight is still coming off; just a little slower (1-2lbs a week). I exercise daily and have during most of the past year. For me, I think that the exercise is key to getting the weight off and keeping it off.
I went off of my HRT about 5 months ago and am doing just fine. I still have an occasional hot flash, but without the extra weight they are more manageable.
I don't know if there are any added benefits of being postmenopausal when it comes to weight loss. I think that there is more of a disadvantage. Our bodies are trying harder to hold on the weight after menopause and I (my opinion) think it is harder rather than easier.
Do you have any specific thing that you were wanting to know.

I am post menopausal and think that has contributed to a slower weight loss.  I am almost 8 months post op and have lost 75 pounds since surgery + 33 pounds pre op.  I have a definate pattern to my weight loss so it doesn't bother me that it seems to be going slower than most.  I lose weight one week, and then nothing for 2 -4 weeks.  I follow my surgeons nutritional guidelines very well and I rarely miss a day on my treadmill.  Logic says the weight has to come off as long as I am doing what I know is the right thing.

I doubt there is any added benefit by being post menopausal.

Well, for me I noticed after I went into surgical menopause, it was more difficult to lose the weight and I just assumed that I wouldn't lose it as quickly (due to my post menopause) as some that is premenopausal, due to hormone levels and metabolism.

Last night at the Kokomo meeting, Dr. Evanston basically said that it's hard to compare the two, because the younger of the two (premenopausal) are usually more active, therefore, lose weight quicker, but what about active POST menopausals....yes!!! there are some of us that still like to live life after menopause!!
hahaah!!
