Initial Consultation-What to expect?

Since I didn't get to quelch my curiousity and/or fear yesterday, I wonder if anyone has any insight as to what an initial consultation involves? Do they run tests? Is it just informational?

My appointment is with Dr. Gupta next Friday.

 Hi Jamie,

Dr. Gupta is great!  You will love her.  I had her as my surgeon before I switched to Dr. Inman because I wanted a different type of surgery, but she is great and will immediately make you feel comfortable.  Consults are pretty much strictly informational.  Dr. Gupta will tell you about the risk and benefits of surgery, the different surgery types, and other things to expect.  Also She will have a one on one with you after the consult that is generally just a little short visit to see if you are a good candidate for the surgery.

Usually this is the only time you will see your surgeon until surgery.  I know it may be a little weird at first, but it will be okay..lol.  Also other office staff will come in and talk about different things.  There will be a person to talk about insurance, a dietitian and maybe something else I don't quite remember..lol.

But anyway, consults are actually quite nice.  It puts you at ease with everything, and lets you know exactly how you are going to live the rest of your life.  Also it's the very beginning of an exciting journey!  You are going to do well.  Take Care

You'll be fine.  I was like you, very stressed and worried.

It was a walk in the park.  The most stressful part of the entire day was the fact that I overslept and was late.

do they start tests on you that day? Like blood tests, etc? 

I didnt have any tests the day of my consult w/ dr. jones @ st vincent..
it was more educational.  the benefits person spoke w. us (us, as in a group of ppl all at one time) about insurance, the nutrtionist spoke w. us and then the dr came in and spoke with us for quite some time.    after that i had a one on one w/ dr jones.  she is very nice!  some ppl had their appt w/ the psychologist the same day.  mine was on a later day.

that was pretty much the extent of the consult appt
