RE: Whew! Trying To Catch Up with Everyone!

Hi everyone.  Boy did I get behind on posting here.  I wanted to post an update but then my mom called from Ohio and told me my dad was taken to the ER last night. 

He had terrible pain in his lower abdomen and couldn't urinate and was very constipated which is unusual since he has Chrons disease.  They put a cathether in and got lots of urine output that way.  They did a CAT scan and found out he has multiple hypodense cysts on both kidneys and one cyst on the right kidney is 3.6 cm.  

By my calculations that is a little less than 1 1/2."  Correct me if I am wrong.    He is having an ultrasound Saturday and goes to Toledo Hospital on Monday to have the test results read and see where they go from here.

I read online that these are usually benign.  Some larger one's may require laparoscopic removal.  Worst case scenerio, kidney failure, prostate cancer, and polycystic kisney disease.  If anyone knows anything about kidney cysts, let me know.  My dad will be 80 in October and has had very little health problems. 

I have been rather torn about rather or not to go home to help them out.  They live 4 hours away.  I'm always there for them in a heartbeat but they insist they are fine and my Aunt and Uncle are going with them on Monday so they won't be alone & my brother is 1 hour away.  So I guess I will sit tight for now and say lots of prayers for dad.

I can understand being torn. I guess what I would say is go though. Ten years from now, what would have wished you had done?

   I am keeping your Dad & family in my prayers. I'm praying it isn't anything that can't easily be taken care of. Having had cysts in my ovaries in the past myself,(thankfully they are gone) I can say they are horribly painful.
 
It is no fun when your parent is sick, & you worry about them, even though others are there with them. Follow your heart- you are close enough for a over night,if you want to/need to, & they know you love them.
