Pre-Op Testing and other stuff

I had my pre-op testing today and I remember someone on the board asking about the Breathtech ( I think that's what it was called) test and how they couldn't do it because they were never told to NOT take their reflux medicine.

Well, I was never told not to take mine either and quite honestly I don't think I could have lasted 2 weeks without it.  Anyway, the nurse and I talked about it and she said it is test for a certain bacteria  BUT the blood work will give the the information they need as well.  So not doing the breathtech test wasn't a huge deal.  Just thought I'd pass that along.

Tomorrow is my nuturition class. I'm realy on my way....and...two weeks from today I'll ******vous wreck.

I've started to tell people and it's really interesting to see some of the reactions I get.  One lady at work said (I'm not making this up) "you don't need it."   I felt like replying "are you blind?". then she said "I need that done. I need to lose 20 lbs".   She wasn't trying to mean and I know the comment was said out of ignorance, trying to relate, and just not knowing or understanding what it's all about.  So I did the only thing I could. I explained it.

I told another co-worker and he smiled really big and said "That's a life changing event. Congratulations!"  My mother in law said the same thing.  Now, they get it.  I told my mother and she started to cray. LOL.  She's dramatic like that.

That's my update. Just pushing through until the day comes!

Kathy,

It was me that posted that comment.  I tried going off prilosec OTC for two days and I was dying, I forgot how well that medication works.  Thanks for posting what you discovered.  I have been worrying about that ever since my pre-op testing.

Good luck to you, I have my surgery on 03/24 at St. Vincents Carmel.

People react differently, I am learning as well.  One of my colllegues said "Yeah, I worked with someone who had that done and when they opened her up she had so much cancer in her they closed her up...and she knew someone else who developed bone cancer afterwards".  Some people are ignorant and haters.  I did not know how to react so I said, "You should think about it because you will be the biggest manager on the floor".  I know, bad Lisa.  But it really pissed me off.

My director hugged me and said I am here to support you....so there are good responses too.

Congrats!  Your time will be here before you know it.  When I decided to have my surgery done I told everyone that I worked with and they were all very supportive.  The only negative person that I ran into was at Lane Bryant.  The Manager there told me that she would "NEVER" do that and asked me why I would.  I responded that it was my decision and I "CAN" and "WILL" have it done so that I would be around for both of my children.  She never said another word.  Good luck with everything.

Yep, you are in good hands with Dr. G.... I like her alot.  She autographed my Tshirt when i hit my 100 lbs down.  She congratulated me and made me feel really special.  She has always seemed more like a friend than most any doc i have ever had.

Good luck to you and dont be too nervous... its an amazing journey.

Huge hugs,
Tracy
