Who determines your goal weight? I know about what mine should be, but don't know an exact number. I am 5'2'' I think I should weigh around 125. Does the dietician determine what it should be? Also, now that I have my approval letter, when should I hear a surgery date? I don't know what I would do without all of you. My dght is starting the process for bariatric surgery today. I am happy we will be able to support each other. Wendy

I think they called me with a surgery date within 48 hours of getting the letter for the file.  I faxed them my copy.  They were pretty quick about it.  Then they called with  my pre-op schedule the next day.

The doctor and I discussed my goal weight.  I am also 5 2 and she said 150 was a good spot for me because I will have to have skin surgery at some point and they will remove 15 to 20 lbs.  So it will put me on the mid to high side of 5 2".  138 to 125 is normal for our height is what I think she told me.

I am excited for you!

Huge hugs,
Tracy

I didn't even ask Dr. Huse because almost everyone on here posted that bariatric doctors shy away from telling you a number. I think that might be becuse it would make you feel overwhelmed. I did ask my family doctor and he wouldn't even give me a number.  He told me to look it up on the AMA site on the internet. Then to pick a number that is on the high end of the range. So that is how I came up with 140. I am 5'5" and my range is 118 to 150 (I think) But I know I have gotten down to 133 and really liked that number so I want to be there. I strive each and every week to get to that number again. I have lost and gained the same 3-5 pounds for the last 4 months. I don't want to give up because I could see that 140 creep back to 145 then to 150 and then I am almost out of my range. So each wee****ep exercising like a fool. I litterally work myself into limp rag mop 5 days a week and walk about 1 1/2 miles on my lunch hour.   And now that it is nice outside my DH and I are starting to do 5K walk/runs on Saturdays. I am consuming 1300-1700 calories even though we are not to calculate calories every day and struggle to keep it between 138-143 with all the exercise I do. I think I have a really low metabolism.I do feel guilty now because I have done it for the past 1 1/2 years when I don't exercise. I am so afraid of gaining  back this lost weight. That is what is motivating me at the present time. I do feel really really good after a hard workout. It is a different kind of tired and it gives me the UMPH to get through the day because I do it in the morning (5 a.m.)

No one ever told me a goal weight. Not Dr. Inman, my GP or the dietician. I determined my goal was 145, because that's the upper edge of "normal" BMI for my height. I wanted to be "normal".

I am with Linda, I am going to focus on my BMI.  Weight numbers make me crazy.
