When I had mine, they were confirmed with a ultrasound and I was scheduled for surgery. My gall bladder was removed laproscopically. I had stones stuck in the entrance & exit of the gall bladder and ended up in pain 24/7 for ten days by the time surgery happened. It was such a relief to have that sucker out that the pain of the surgery didn't seem that bad at all. Since you are post-op, I'd call your WLS surgeon and ask if they can get you in for the ultrasound. They may order a hidascan as well. Sometimes, you don't have any stones but the gall bladder isn't functioning correctly. This scan will show that. Many of the WLS surgeons also remove gall bladders.

Let's see..my pain was under my right rib cage and radiated to the back. I have heard of people having pain only in their back, only on their right side, and a few..on their left side. For me, I started having occasional pain when I would move a certain way but it would ease up an hour of so afterward...until finally the stones got lodged and wouldn't come out. When they did the surgery, I had 5 small 1" incisions. I also had my first drain tube. That sucker seamed like it was 6' long when it was removed. The surgery was done out-patient...I was released after recovery. I had the drainage removed 1-2 weeks later and I was off of work a total of 6 weeks.

Hope this helps.

One thing for sure, it did not go away on it's own. I wouldn't wait until you had the 24/7 pain to get it taken care of. NOTHING would help the pain ease up at all.

By definition:
A hernia is a protrusion of a tissue, structure, or part of an organ through the muscle tissue or the membrane by which it is normally contained.

I've had two different kind of hernias. The first is what most post-ops refer to as KBS....kinky bowel syndrome. Because we lose so much weight, our intestines have room to move around. As they do, they can get hung up on small openings underneath them. Because they protrude inwardly, they aren't visual. When I had mine, I had 3 different places kinking up. The CT didn't show them because they weren't kinked at the time the CT was taken. Because I was having KBS type pain, Dr. Gupta went ahead and did an exploratory and put a couple of well-placed stitches in.

The other hernia was from when they opened up may abdominal wall. It pprotruded outwardly and was about the size of a kickball. Unlike the KBS, this one was not painful as the wall was completely opened up for it so no pinching. It however had a longer recoup period.
