Lyn update

No change in the alertness or movement of Lyn but he is staying off the vent for longer periods of time.  He was off for 11 hours yesterday and so far 9 hours today.  They keep on for 6 hours then off for a couple and back on.  Tomorrow though they are going to start trying him off from 6am to 6pm.  THis is really good news that he can breath this long with just oxygen thru the trach.  This does mean since he is showing progress that they may not send him home as soon as they thought as they won't send him home while he is making progress which is good also.  The therapist today said there is a possibility he can be weaned completely off the vent or at least be off of it during waking hours, we will just have to wait and see.

I am ready to take him home when the time comes.  I have such a supportive family that lives all within 5 miles of us.  There have been many that have volunteered to be trained on the vent if needed.  I have got it figured out where to put a hospital bed, and I can sleep on the couch by him.  It would be where he could be around people when they come in and if it is possible that he can see, he could see the TV and the cows out the window.

Lyn and I are so fortunate, we love eachother so much and very rarely argued.  We have already done a lot of traveling, went to Scotland to find where Lyn's ancestors were from in 1996 and even renewed our wedding vows at Gretna Green Scotland the place famous for weddings.  We also went to London and Paris during that trip.  Then in 2007 we won a trip to Ireland which was great, plus lots of traveling done in the US.  We have done so much together.  I honestly have not ever thought thru all of this about the things that we will probably not be able to do again, I just thank God for what we have been able to do in the past.

We are so fortunate also that even though I am now not able to work, that we will still be ok financially.  Of course it will be a big change and we will have to watch it but we don't have to worry about losing the farm or having food on the table.

I am so thankful for wonderful insurance so far.  I know this can change but at this time Mcare and our supplement have been very good.

And we are so blessed and fortunate to have such wonderful friends and family.  Not only our biological family but our OH family here.

Love you all,  Terry

Terry, I'm feel so bad because I feel as though I just abandoned you. I'm glad to hear that Lyn is making progress with getting off the vent and that you've got it all figured out how to bring him home. I thank God for your family who are willing to learn how to help care for him. Hang in there, you're getting one step closer to being home with Lyn.

I am the one feeling bad knowing that you have done so much for us and I cannot do anything to help you.  Just take care of yourself.  I think of you often.  Terry

I was just lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time when Lyn first came to St. Vincent. Please don't feel bad. I am doing ok.

Terry,  I am happy that you seem to have put together some answers for your future with Lyn.  It's such a blessing that you have family so close by and willing to learn to help care for Lyn.

I love that you feel so happy about your life with Lyn and you are taking a positive attitude about it.  The experiences you have shared with him are priceless and you will forever have that.  I think you should talk to Lyn about those trips together and maybe even show him pictures when you get him home.  It never hurts to try things to stimulate his mind.  It was certain to be memories that he valued as well and could maybe help bring back thoughts to him.

Best wishes to you and Lyn for continue progress.  My prayers are always with you.

Huge hugs,
Tracy
