Friendly advice needed...

I had my surgery (RNY) on Feb. 27th. It's been a week now and I feel like I can eat anything. I have not tried and am eating 2 ounces a meal, usually an egg. I don't feel hungry all the time but I never feel full. Is this normal? Since I woke up from surgery, I have not gotten sick or experienced any side effects. I have lot 20 pounds so far.

I am having issues finding things to eat. I know I have not been at my protein levels lately because I don't have a big selection to choose from. Anyone got ideas? I tried Tofu...yuck. I tried baby food turkey..It works. I tried an over easy egg...Great!

Any advise would be helpful...

Thanks!

HI Marty, we have the same surgeon.  I love Dr M!!  The reason you feel like you can eat anything and have not experienced the "full" feeling yet is because your stomach is still numbed from having surgery.  If I remember correctly (someone correct me if I am wrong) but I seem to recall the numb feeling leaving and beginning to understand what "full" was at about one month out from surgery.  I have been pretty fortunate also in being able to eat most things.  I had a problem with some lactose products and sugar alcohols immediately after surgery but by month 3 that had remedy itself.  I don't think it is abnormal that you have not been sick or had any side effects at this point especially if you are following the eating plan you were given.

As far as getting in protein, since you are so new from having surgery you will need to depend on shakes to get your protien.  Have you tried refried beans, carb masters yogurt from kroger, cottage cheese, oatmeal?

Since we had the same surgeon and same nuts i will be happy to answer any questions you might have, just send me a PM.

Jeannie

I agree with the numb feeling but are you sipping your protien drink or milk constantly??? Right now it should feel like all you are doing is drinking...

The first several weeks I just drank milk didnt eat anything except an occasional refried bean...

Be well

i know exactly what you are saying... i didnt have the full feeling until about 5 weeks out.  Then it hit me like a ton of bricks.  Even jello made me feel stuffed.  So be patient and dont worry.  its very normal for you to feel like this at this early stage.

Congrats on your surgery and good luck

huge hugs,
Tracy

Ditto on the full feeling!  It was 5-6 weeks before I could feel full.  And now, boy, it doesn't take much for me to feel it!

Hi Marty!
I'm surprised you can eat an egg already. I was still pretty much on broth, soft soup, and liquids like protein shakes at a week out. Be sure to follow your surgeon's directions, don't pu****! What everyone else has said about the full feeling is right...you'll feel it eventually, believe me!

Good luck!

I'm glad I am not the only one that does not feel the full feeling. I am usually eating 1 egg over easy, baby food turkey, or jello. I did buy a box of fozen fish fillets that are grilled. They are made by Gordons. They mash up really well and are really moist. I can eat 2 ounces of that. I have been drinking my protein daily. I got some Isopure whey protein that gives me 50 grams of protein.

How much fluid like water or crystal light can I drink in a sitting. I have found that I can drink a 16 ounce bottle of water in little over an hour. Is this ok?

Hi,

I am scheduled for WLS on March 24th.  I would like to get some whey protein.  Can you tell me where you got it and what it taste like?

I am preparing and am lost since there are so many types of whey.  I think getting 50 grams of protein in, would be ideal.

Thanks so much,

Lisa

I buy all my protein from www.affordablesupplements.com. GNC stores are way too high in price. I use a product called Isopure. Its 50 grams of protein and zero everything else. Mix 2 scoops with water and your done. I get the chocolate and its great.
