Lyn update
Thought I had better update you on what is going on since Tracy posted about her and Peggy's visit.
I know Dr's have to do their job but I mentioned to the nurse practitioner that works with the Dr here that the therapists and some friends and family had noticed smiles occasionally and also more of an awareness and expressions displayed by Lyn. Well I was quickly told that none of that really meant anything and it probably was just a reflex for the smiling as with the expressions. They said they didn't want to bring me down but I had to face this.
Anyway I will chose to believe what I believe and I do believe he knows we are here.
Now for today's update
Lyn was able to stay off the vent for 4 hours this morning. He got very tired and worked very hard at it but lasted for 4 hours which surprised me since this was the first day he had been off it since the weekend.
They also got him on the tilt table and were able to put him into a standing position for awhile. I think he definately knew he was in a different position. They also did some tests with him like putting an ammonia capsule under his nose to see if he reacts to smell and yes he definately has his smell intact. They also did some touch tests like putting a q tip at the end of his nose to tickle it and he reacted to that also. He hates his oral care and today when the nurse started to put the swab to his mouth he clamped up his lips and would not open them for anything.
Little things like the above we are seeing but just want so bad to see something significant. Like a smile to us or squeezing our hand or moving something. Something that the Dr will recognize as something "REAL".
As I have said I have to take this ONE DAY AT A TIME. This hospital is called Seton Speciality Hospital after St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. I saw one of her quotes last night that kinda sums this up.
"God is with me and what can I fear?
I look neither behind or before, only up."
So again I vow to not give up and keep trusting God and pray and hope that Lyn will be healed. I do not ask that he has to be in perfect health but pray that he will have some type of awareness of his life and those in it. I also pray that God will let Lyn be aware someday of all of the people including all of you that read this, that have been following his progress and praying for him and loving him. I know he will be so overwhelmed as I have been for all the support.
God Bless, Terry

I understand they can not give you false hope...but babes you know what you are seeing...the others know what they are seeing...a smile is a smile...and an instant cure for me....so keep that faith!
Continuing prayers
big hugs and love

Secondly, I know they tell you those things because they are in the business of caring for people who have little or no hope of getting better. But what they don't realize is that Lyn is a true fighter and he has you and God on his side. They can tell you they are reflexes. They can try and say you need to face the facts.... It's their job. But I am here to tell you, reflexes you don't control... Lyn definately was smiling in response to the things going on around him. He didn't do it when we weren't joking or talking directly to him. He did it when we spoke to him and joked with him. So, Inside all of that... He is there and he does know you are there for him. He may take a long time to get well enough to respond the ways they want him to... but keep faith in knowing he is there and he knows you are with him. This may be the life you have to adjust to at this point. But only God knows what is in store for Lyn. Never let them take away your hopes and prayers for Lyn. You know him better than anyone else.
Tell Lyn that I miss him and his big brown eyes! I am praying for him. I will try to get up to see him again soon, Maybe next weekend.
Huge hugs,
Tracy
Thanks for the update. I feel you're in a better position to know positive signs so much more than the doctors. They only see Lyn a very short time. Lyn is your life and you know him better than anyone. The power of prayer is amazing and thousands of prayers are said each day for you and Lyn. I'm leaving tonight for a Men's Retreat so be assured there will be extra prayers for Lyn this weekend.
Take care of yourself, too. Hope to see you real soon.

Any pediatrician will tell a new mommy that their baby is not smiling, it's gas. But we mommy's KNOW when our child smiled at us the first time! I feel that you just KNOW when someone is smiling at you! Believe what is in your heart. Faith and medicine has collided many, many times. Have faith that God is in control. If your heart tells you that Terry is smiling at you, he is smiling at you!
Keeping you & Lyn in my thoughts & prayers!

Continued healing thoughts heading for you and Lyn. With God by you, this will continue to make you and Lyn stronger each day. Only time will prove the caretakers that it was more than just a reflex.
Prayers continue to pour your way.
You only have one life to live, but if lived right, it's the only one you need!
Terry,
You hang in there. The docs only see him for a few minutes a day and didn't even know him until recently. You KNOW him, you know his expressions and mannerisms. YOU are the one who will know his responses.
I'm still believing for a FULL recovery and beyond that to be better than he was before.
Four hours? That's real progress and I believe shows his will to fight back through this.
You are both in my prayers.
Annette
I can eat as much as I want...I just don't want much.
I'm ashamed of what I did for a Klondike bar...
You do know Lyn so much better than the Seton staff does. Keep your faith in God and not things people say of this world that appear to be roadblocks and detours. These caregivers do not spend as much time with him as you do. You know him from the inside out and he is responding to your faithful love, attention, and your voice and touch. Don't give up hope.
Lyn sounds like a strong willed fighter. He is clinching his mouth shut for dental stuff and the other things your described.. These are all small victories when someone is so critical. I have witnessed these things in people recovering in ICU and it is so powerful to stand and witness those small miracles. You go girl and keep on believing. I will visit with both of you in the near future.
big hugs and prayers sent your way,
Kathy

The Drs have to say these things so you can't hold anything against them IF it doesnt go well but inside they are hopeing and praying I think just like we are...
I know the teachers who kept feeding Alexa peanuts even though she was allergic were in horrible pain because they did what they did but they couldnt say anything to Melissa for legal sake.. they couldnt admit anything...
Take care of YOURSELF... be well..
