I had almost all of my pre-op tests completed today at St. V's.  They did not administer the Breathtek...I did not know I was to discontinue the use of Prilosec 2 weeks prior.

I will stop taking it and call them tomorrow to schedule this test.  Just not sure who to call.  Probably Dr. Huse's office.  Not really sure.

I am just happy that I am etting close.  Next step I will be scared to death, oops don't like that word.  Just terrified for awhile, until I get my mind wrapped around this.

March 24th will be here before I know it and I know I will be ok.

Lisa!  That is awesome news!!

I have to tell you I would be WORRIED about you if your weren't nervous, scared, anxious and a million other words.  Best advise do whatever you can to get ready for the surgery and PRAY for peace.  It will bring you comfort.  Make sure you call the chaplain to have him come pray with you the morning of surgery if your minister can't be there.  He was a HUGE comfort for me!!

Huggs!!

The chaplain's name at St. V is Chaplain Landry and his # is 317-582-7137.  He is a very compassionate man.  I've met with him several times with patients for prayer.

Lisa, I'm glad this day is over for you.  I'm sorry we didn't run into each other.  Let me know when you will be coming back this way.

I was very nervous b4 my surg.  I am prone to anxiety attacks.  I like all my ducks in a straight row.  I plan, plan, plan and am very organized but how do we organize anxiety?  My faithful God helps to keep me grounded.
hugs,
Kathy

Lisa,

I called a couple days before and told them I was having surgery and would be there at whatever time.  They put me on the schedule for him to visit.  I know some others who didn't call and he stopped in to ask them if they'd like to pray.  I didn't want to take the chance of not of missing him since my own minister was in Anderson.

Lisa,

Please keep us posted, I am starting the steps for a possible revisement. I go Saturday for my upper GI and see Dr Huse again on 4/6/9.  Thanks for the info on the breathtek, because I take my prilosec every day.

Have a wonderful day, I got to get busy since I am at work.

My pre-ops were interesting to say the least.  First stop was blood draw,   The nurse was being shawdowed by another new nurse or phlembotimist.  She had a terrible time finding a vein.  I don't usually have that problem with veins.  When she finally found one, she drew several vials of blood ...I noticed there were two small empty vials left.  She pulled the needle out before she filled the last two and had to restick me.

Then I had to provide a urine sample (after not eating or drinking since 10:00 the night before) it was like getting blood from a turnip.  I did the best I could and went on to X-ray.  The nurse found me in X-ray and said the lab needed more urine.

Then I went to have my EKG and was introduced to the Spirometer IS, the nurse was very nice and personable and knowledgeable and gave me a lot of information.

I met with the surgical nurse and explained my thirst and since I did not need an upper GI (had it in January) and I had my gallbladder removed in 07.  She got me a tall cup of ice water and then I had a very quick chest X-ray.

I saw Dr. Mick and he was awesome.  Great personality and very caring and informative.  He spent a lot of time with me and answered a lot of my questions.  I did not feel rushed and he assured me that Dr. Huse was one of the best.

Overall it was a very positive experience with the exception of the blood draw.  After that encounter I thought ...Oh no, but it turned around.

I asked the same question before I had surgery and Christie gave me a very humourous description of her experience and she was right on.  I am going to copy and paste the link below, she gave me a great laugh that really eased my tension:

It was posted under the topic Topic: Pre-Op Testing at St. V's  on 2/28.

I recommend reading it...it had me LOL, Chris should be a comedy writer.  Be sure to scroll down because she added additional comments that are off the chain FUNNY.....

Enjoy,
