Update on me

I was hospitalized last Wed-Fri night because everytime I try to eat/drink I get really nauseated. When I arrived to the ER on Wed, they found my potassium to be very low at 2.4. They ran every test they could and have decided the nausea is from my Lexapro. They stopped the Lexapro but said it could take up to 6 weeks to get out of my system. In the mean time, I am barely eating/drinking because of the nausea. The Zofran orally doesn't seem to work for the nausea, so I was sent home to just "wait it out." I'm frustrated and angry. At this point, my whole body is weak and feels "asleep" when I touch it. Don't know how else to describe it but to say when I touch my skin, I know I'm touching it but can't feel it like I should.

I still feel lousy and plan on calling the office again on Monday. I don't know what the answer is. I wonder about them placing a PICC line so I could do TPN during the night to help replenish what I can't get in during the day. I have been to the ER 3 times and hospitalized 2 of those times.

Has anyone else dealt with this type of nausea from the Lexapro or from anything after surgery?

So sorry to hear that you still aren't feeling well.  I was hoping they would figure it out and you would be much better by now.  I had problems with Lexapro too, but not with nausea.  I felt dizzy and lightheaded and had vision problems relating to the Lexapro.  I stopped taking it really early out and a few days later the problems resolved.  I hope that if it was the lexapro causing your problems that it gets out of your system quickly and you start feeling better soon!

Your body feeling asleep kind of sounds like a neurological issue.  I think I remember someone saying that a B vitamin deficiency can cause neurological issues like that, but I can't remember which B vitamin it was.  Of course, they probably checked your levels and surely if it was a B vitamin deficiency they would have noticed that.  I don't know...try to hang in there.  Hopefully things will get better quickly!

Keep us posted on how you are doing.

I'm so sorry you're having problems.  Guess I'm lucky that I don't take Lexapro.  I have been on Paxil for about 6 years following a bad car wreck, so Dr. Evanson just had me continue with that.

I hope that the nausea resolves itself soon so that you can get back on the road to being healthy.  What about patches for the nausea?  I wore a patch behind my ear the entire time I was in the hospital following surgery.  Wonder if that would work better than oral meds.

Please keep us posted on how you're doing.

Hey everyone. Thanks for the well wishes. I bit the bullet today and called Dr. E. I expressed my frustration and fear about the nausea keeping me from eating/drinking. I also expressed my concerns about not being able to be hospitalized all the time. We've decided on a plan. Tomorrow his office is going to arrange having a PICC line placed in me and then I will start on TPN (IV nutrition) at home. This wil enable me to get everything in that I need to despite the fact I may not be able to eat/drink. I am good with this plan, just kinda wi**** was happening today, but it is Sunday. I still feel like my body is all asleep. My mom is coming to town tomorrow am to stay with us for a while, which will be a huge help.

Melissa,  I'm glad you got hold of Dr. E.  I know he wouldn't want you to suffer.  The PICC line is best for you at this time till you get the Lexapro out of your system and the nausea is over and done with.

Hang in there!
