Hi Jeanna!
Actually, yes we did have some experiences while there. While taking a tour of the historic hotel, I was taking pictures in the banquet room. When I got the pictures printed, there were orbs everywhere in the photo. Apparently, orbs are signs of ghostly activity.
We stayed in the Presidential suite. There was no one above us. However, we kept hearing footsteps up above us all night. There were no rooms above us. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
The room would get extremely cold and drafty in spots. This was the first week of July and it was 90 degrees out.
I don't spook easily. Suffice it to say, I insisted on sleeping with the lights on.
It doesn't help matters that the hotel info TV channel plays "The Shining" 24/7.
It is a beautiful old hotel though, right at the foot of the Rocky Mts. There was a lavish wedding there the day we checked in. That's how we came to get the Presidential Suite. Some of the wedding guests decided to stay over, and the rooms weren't ready. We had to wait a couple of hours on a room even though we'd made reservations months before. Because of that, we got upgraded to the Presidential Suite at no additional charge.
We did ask about the infamous room 217 - where Stephen King got the inspiration for The Shining. It's booked 2 years in advance - everyone wants to stay where he got the idea for the novel.
The gift shop sells all sorts of Shining memorabilia. When Stephen King remade The Shining into a mini-series (much more faithful to the book), he insisted on shooting it at The Stanley. They have a framed photo collage hanging on the wall downstairs with candid, behind the scenes photos from the shooting of the mini-series. It was a blast.
