Hey surgery sis!  We all lose at different rates.  A lot of it depends, I think, on how our surgeon did the surgery - how much was bypassed.  Also on our intake of water, protein, supplements, whether we exercise or not, and so on.

Perhaps you should talk to your doctor - he could put your mind at ease.

Just remember - slow and steady wins the race!!

There are some of us who are slow losers..........PERIOD.  We can't change a thing about that.  Trust me I have tried every trick mentioned on these boards with no success.  I have upped my protein, swallowed more water, I walk on my treadmill faithfully nothing changes for me I continue to lose slowly, even my surgeon calls me a slow loser.

You must come to terms with this, its not that big of a deal...its not a race!  You will get to where you want to be the same way each and every person gets there... one pound at a time.  I posted on Feb 8th that I had lost 100 pounds, its now Feb 28th and I have lost 103 pounds so in 20 days I have lost 3 pounds.  I have moments when I get so frustrated I want to stop the bus and get the heck off.   Other moments I convience myself that I am ok.  I am comfortable at the weight I am today (185).  My goal is 145, I will get there.  Just not as quickly as some get there.

I work hard at weight loss, it continues to be a daily battle.  I think many factors come into play for me.....I am post menopausal,my age,  I have dieted to extremes before including starving myself so this is not my body's first go around with starvation, its old hat.  Get honest with yourself about what is going in your mouth by writing it down, make sure your getting yoru protein and water in and exercise.  If you see that you are doing everything your surgeon has told you to do then you just have to pick you head up and hold it high and know that you are working  harder than you ever have in your life at weightloss and your chances for success are greater today than they have ever been.  Be proud of the courage it took to have surgery and the endurance it takes daily to practice a healthy lifestyle.  You can do this.

I doubt very seriously the way your surgeon did your surgery has anything to do with how you are losing weight.  It is a cookie cutter operation that is done the same way on all patients.  If you lose five pounds a month in 24 months that will be 120 pounds.

33 lbs lost prior to surgery!

I know it is really hard for you not to compare your weight loss to your sisters that had surgery the same day as you or even the same month, but God did not make us all from one mold.  We are all as different and unique as every snowflake that falls from the sky.  We will all lose weight different, just as we gained weight differently.

What makes this weight loss journey different from all the others you have been on is that you have been given all the tools you need to help you lose weight. You have access to support group meetings every month.  You went thru psych tests & the dietitians classes to learn what to eat.  You have the yellow sheet.  You have a whole notebook full of useful information.  There are bariatric cookbooks available.  The dietitians & your Dr. are only an appt. away.  You have OH which is a whole family of support to lean on for help. And, last, but not least, you have had bariatric surgery at a Bariatric Hospital of Excellence with a full staff of excellent bariatric surgeons.

Did any other diets you have ever been on offer you all these services before, during, and after...when you are in maintenance...the rest of your life, at little or no cost to you? You have been given so many "tools" for your weight loss journey but you, and you alone have to pick them up and use them. No one can do it for you. My  VBGB required me to eat pureed food for 6 weeks when I had my surg 8 yrs. ago and that's what I did.  It may help you to plan meals ahead of time.  I had 6 weeks of 1 ounce cups of pureed food in the freezer when I got home from the hospital. Thank God you aren't on pureed food anymore.

Don't doubt whether you have done the right thing?  Don't sabatoge yourself by comparing yourself to others.  You are too early out to be thinking about trying pouch tests and things like that.  Don't take any short-cuts. Just re-evaluate your program and see if you are dotting all your i's and crossing all your t's.  If you are, just take it one day at time.  If you aren't, make changes one day at a time.

I agree with Jeannie, I don't think the way the surgeon does the surgery has anything to do with your weight loss.  Dr. Tim Glass did my VBGB and was assisted by Dr. Kaderabak. Since Dr. Glass no longer does VBGB, I have been a patient of Dr. K for 6 yrs.  Many people do not understand the VBGB but it is a combination surgery.  We get the vertical banding and the gastric bypass.  It is very similiar to the RNY in every other way and we have the same amt. of intestine bypassed.  I have done well in my weight loss with the VBGB, and in maintaining it with no revisions, and I would highly reccommend it and Dr. K to anyone.  I just wanted to clarify that.

Don't allow everyone else's numbers to define your progress.  Remember actions speak louder than numbers!    If you are losing slowly, think of this as your "turtle days!"  You know the story of the hare and the tutle.  Who won that race?
"Behold the turtle.  He makes progress only when he sticks his neck out."  ~James Bryant Conant
