First of all let me say how sorry I am to hear about Linda's Family Loss.

I have been reading all the post within this forum, I have never seen so much support in the WLS world.

I had my WLS  (Realize Band) on June 30, 2008,  I have lost 57 lbs and 37 inches and I have STOPPED, not sure why, but I have.  I have joined the YMCA, haven't been going like I should, but I don't have someone to go with me, my daughter goes with me when she can, but she works 3rd shift so it is hard for her to go all the time.

I have talked with my husband about going with me, but he some times don't want to there is 12 years different in our age he is 57 and I am 45, but he says he is falling apart, I don't think so but he does.  I guess I just need some more support??

I am also an insulin dependent diabetic, I got put on a insulin pump May 15, 2008  and I want it gone, like yesterday.

I just don't know where to turn, so after reading the Indiana forum, I was hoping to find it here.

Anyway Thanks for listing.

Susan,

Welcome to the board and welcome out of lurkdom. I hope you feel comfortable enough to post many, many more times.

With you having the band..have you gone in for a fill recently? I don't know how the realize band differs from the band we usually hear about...but the usual one, the patients need to see their surgeon on a regular basis to get fills. So...you may want to make an appointment with your surgeon for this.

Did you consider the RNY at all? If so, why did you choose the band instead? I am asking not because I think one is woo-hoo better than the other but because the RNY usually takes care of insulin dependent diabetes much quicker. 60 Minutes even had a special about it. It is suppose to be because the portion that causes diabetes is the little bit that comes off the bottom of the stomach to the intestines is what is bypassed with the RNY...therefore, elimanating diabetes. For that reason alone, according to the story, diabetes goes away with the surgery.

Sherri,

I did consider the RNY, but my husband (after much reseach), ask if I would do the band instead, just because the RNY was such a major surgery not that the lapband wasn't, but it was a different kind of surgery.

I have read that both surgerys where good for the taking care of diabetes, but I know I am just pushing and wanting the pump to go away now.  I know in time the pump will be gone and so will the diabetes.

I went for my fill in January and was to go back in February but they call and said that the doctor would not be in the office, so now I go back on March 26, for a fill.  I guess I just have to wait and keep going to the gym.

I have not yet had my revision surgery, but I think of this as the online support group I will need to have success in my weight loss.

The people here are awesome and sincere.

Hi Susan.  Welcome to the Indiana board.  I had the lap band in September.  I guess the questions I would ask myself if I was stalled out would be:

1.  Are you drinking liquid calories?  My surgeon only allows  non caloric liquids...no protein shakes, sweetened drinks, etc.  With the band, solid proteins work best.

2.  Are you eating between meals?  I follow a 3 meal a day, no snacks plan.  I know some surgeons allow snacks.  Mine doesn't and it helps me to not graze if I limit it to 3 meals per day.  The week before TOM, I usually do have an afternoon snack because I seem to be hungrier that week.  I'll have either a serving of roasted almonds, SF jello or SF pudding, string cheese or something like that.

3.  If you do not yet have good restriction, it may just take waiting until you do.

4.  Exercise is vital to weight loss.  On the days you can't make it to the gym, it would be great if you could come up with a workout to do at home.

Again, welcome and here is a post of the band rules from the lapband board that I think is a great help.
