Lyn update Tuesday Feb 24

No real change in Lyn yet as far as becoming more alert or waking up. His temp is still down which is good and he doesn't look as sick as he did for a few days.

He was off the vent for about an hour this morning and again for about 45 minutes this afternoon. I think he would have been able to stay off longer but has so a large amount of secretions in his airway that it makes it harder to breathe and frequent suctioning is needed. As nurses we all have our least favorite body secreation and mine used to be sputum. I could handle BM or vomit but sputum I did not like. Well that has now changed and thank heaven it does not bother me anymore, we would be in trouble if it did. I think he will feel so much better when the sputum lessens especially since he hurts so much from the broken ribs to cough.

The wound care nurse was in today and said "you know he is a very very sick man and we expect the sores to get very deep with this process". She later said though that his labs were good and not every wound is predictible so he may be one of the lucky ones.

The surgery for the permanent feeding tube is scheduled for Friday morning. It will be an open incision but should be a quick procedure.

A new thing was that the therapists had him sit on the edge of the bed for about 15 minutes today. Of course they had to hold his body upright and his head upright but none the less he was sitting. His open eyes got very big as he probably realized he had not been in this position for a long time.

Cousins John and Judy were here today and said they could tell a difference in his eye contact when I was close to his face talking to him. It was good to hear them say they saw a few positives signs that seemed like Lyn is in there, just that he has to learn how to get out and let us know he is there.

As I sit here day after day I hear some stories of people that did not recover but I hear the good stories of people that were supposedly never going to wake up and then they come back here months later to visit the staff. I know it is going to be a very long process and means our lives will never be the same and I will not be working for quite some time. It is just further proof that it is so important to take it One Day at a Time. There is no way to plan for the future because I have no idea what it is.

I have gotten down a few days and asked "WHY"?? I then have to remember it is not up to me to question, that this is happening for a reason that only God knows, it is his plan and I just have to trust that HE is in control. I am trying to stay strong and Thank God for bringing him this far.

The messages, cards, visits and calls we are getting are such a blessing.  Your messages are so uplifting and keep me going. I appreciate them all.

Until tomorrow, Terry

Oh yea sweetie you so have the right attitude to keep up the strength!! Give yourself permission to just drop down and cry it out.. get angry, stomp your feet.. It makes waiting for Gods plans so much easier.. No one feels bad about you letting off a little pressure so you shouldnt either.

It does sound like things are getting better. May God keep you and bless you and give you ... a good nights sleep!!

Terry, I am so glad you have kept us updated.  I know Lyn is in there and is so happy every time you get close to him and talk to him.  He really does respond in the slightest of ways.  I just know he will someday be able to tell you how much you have meant to him thru the process.  Keep up the great work and tell Lyn that Marc and I have our prayer groups praying for him and for you.

Huge hugs,
Tracy

Terry,
Thank you for the update on Lyn.  Our church continues to pray for him and God's will in your lives.  It seems like God has trials for our OH family lately.  But He is in charge.

Jeremiah 29:11 (New Living Translation)

11 For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

We shall continue to lift you up.
