Calcium Citrate chews from Bariatric Advantage

Okay, so someone correct me if I am wrong....and belive me, I want to be WRONG! I was looking forward to something I could take instead of all the big horse pills!  I got on the Bariatric Advantage web page to get info on preordering them.....and this is what I found.

1 bag has 240 chews for $29.95    HOWEVER, here is the rest of the info.---

Nutrient Amount %DV
Calories 15
Total Carbohydrate 3 g 1%*
Sugars 0 g
Sugar Alcohol 3 g
Vitamin D 125 IU 31%
Calcium (from Calcium Citrate) 250 mg 25%
Sodium 10 mg 10%

* Okay, so my math tells me that I have to eat 8 of these chews a day to get the 2000mg of calcium that I take a day.   Which means that ONE BAG is ONE MONTH of chews ($30/month).  I buy my calcium at Costo and pay like $20 for 3 months worth.    So, let's say you get over the price....let's look at the calories.....
8x15=120   So, 120 calories a day to take these chews????  Um, no.

I think they might still be good to supplement the calcium pills.  Like maybe do a couple chews a day and the rest in pills.  But this is CRAZY!  Oh, and it was also be 24 carbs a day to eat all  8 chews.

I am disappointed.

Are you sure thats for one, I thought Rutahnne at Clarian said the other day at SG that those numbers were for 2 chews? I don't think Clarian would reccomend them if what you say is the case. I'll ask though.

I was gonna say that...I thought 2000 sounded awfully high. But...obviously doctors and hospitals are different.

My book from St V and my NUT say we are to take 1500mg a day.  And I checked the serving size on that chart, it is for one.  I figured that we would need to take 6 a day.  So 90 calories a day.  Not a big deal. St V's will be selling them for $10 a bag of 90 according to what they told me but on the site it shows 60 per bag.  They ship for free.   I still plan to use the lozenges and might get the chews as a "treat" on occasion.

I use UpCal D powdered calcium citrate from Global Health Products ( www.globalhp.com ).  You can add it to liquids or foods or sometimes I just poor it into my mouth, swish some water around and swallow it.  Just don't inhale  or you'll choke!!  I feel like I'll absorb it better since it is already broken down into the powdered form (better than counting on a pill to disolve in our shortened digestive system).  I'm with you, I'd only use the chews as a treat (maybe one dose a day).   Good luck.

I know that I take more calcium then they tell us too.  But even 6 of these are going to be pricey and high in calories and carbs.  I was just hoping for a better chew, dangit.

The Up-Cal D has been a God send to me. One canister of the flavorless powder will last you over 2 months and only cost you $11.00!

It is on the dietitians sheet for St. V's but I have an updated phone # and contact that is cheaper than Global Health.  He still sells for Global Health but it is distributor called Square One Medical.  My contact is Howard Wolf and his cell phone # is 412-913-2739.  You may have to leave a msg. but he is good at getting back to you.  You can give him my name for reference but I get no compensation for referrals.  I pay what you pay.  But it sure is cheap, cheap, cheap compared to so many of the others.

Here are the details:  UpCal D Calcium with Citrate is a powder that is flavorless and tastleless.  One serving gives you 500mg of Calcium from Citrate and 250 IU of Vit D.  St. V's dietitians say we need to take 3 seperate servings a day to equal 1500 mg.  Do not take it with your vitamins.

There is a little scoop in the can to measure your single serving of 500mg.  Each can has 227 servings in it so it will last you about 75 days for $11.00.  If you order in a larger quantity you save even more money.  Buy 2 jars for $20.  Buy a case of 6 for $58.

A gal posted a global health website on here to order it but I believe that they are more expensive.  Hopefully this will save her money too.  I will never take 6 or more pills, lozenges, crystals, or chews a day again.  I love this stuff.  Just 3 times a day and you are done.  You will save a ton of money.

You can add it to any liquid or soft food, you don't taste it and it has no odor or after taste.  It is non-constipating and eliminates swallowing large pills.

And that's not all.  They also have Go-Packs that you can take to work with you or when you are on the go, etc.  They are single serv packs that look like a handi-wipe and you just tear em open and pour em in your lunch drink or whatever.  You get a box of 120 for $10.00.

If anyone is coming to Tues. night support group meeting at St. V's I will be bringing samples with me.  Let me know you will be there if I don't know you so we can hook up.

If anyone has questions, feel free to PM me.

hugs,
Kathy
