I heard from Amy, it seems my insurance may require 3 months of supervised wt. loss before approving bariatric surgery. Is anyone familar with Dr. Gomez wt loss and what it involves. I must confess, insurance guys baffle me. If I could loss wt without the surgery I would have done so

well whatever your insurance requires is what they ask of you...but there is loop holes...so if your insurance requires you to do 6 months supervised dieting they will accept your pcp writing a letter stating you have been dieting  for 6 months with weight ups and downs or with some weightloss but how this would be an asset to help get the desired weight off....how you have cut calories... what calorie diet you have been on low fat no fat ...workout plan....just detailed is what they look for and doc gomez will even do a one on one conference call with insurance guys...he is pretty awesome....he saved my life...love gomez's staff ....i was sick for awhile and they took very good care of me! good luck

Amy told me they may require me to do a 6 month program too but as it turned out, they had enough documentation from my PCP's records to see that I clearly had battled my weight for more than 5 years and let me know an approval.  In all honesty, I was morbidly obese for more than 10 yrs and severly obese for over 21 years.  So, It can sometimes depend on what they see in your history and medical file.

Don't let it get you down.  Just hope for the best and do as they ask.  You might be surprised and get an approval right away.

Best wishes,
Tracy

I had to do 6 months of supevised visits even with all my weight loss attempts.  It took me a couple of months to get in the "swing" of things BUT I started attending support groups at the same time.  It will all work out in the end because it will give your mind a little more time to start adjusting for surgery.  God has a plan for you and the surgery will happen when he's ready for it not when you are

She is very nice, she will talk to you and go over everything she wants you to do. Such as starting to keep track of what you eat and how much you are exercising. She will go over how many calories you should eat. She has a scale that you get on that will tell how much body fat you have and how much of your body is muscle. I had to see her to, then after my letter came and I got approved (waiting on date from Heather now) I dont have to go to her anymore. You will be fine she is very sweet and the office girls are great to you will see. She has a web site she recominds Fitday.com it is all free and is great with tracking everything.

Thank you for the good info and for the web site. I was a little worried about driving to Indy once a week, but reminded myself that driving is much better than dealing with the ravages diabetes can wreck on my body
