Pre-Op Protein Question

Lisa,

You will get more protein information in your pre-op class. I really would recomend NOT trying out protein drinks pre-op. Our taste buds change so much. St. V's has their own little concoction that they like for people to try first. Every person is so different that there is not one or two that we could suggest with any guarantee that you'd like it at all. Just look for ones that are high in protein (I go for +20 g /serving), low in calories (~120/serving) and no sugar or caffiene. Walmart, Kroger, GNC all carry some powders as well as RTD (ready to drink). I also order some from ibariatric.com & bariatricEating.com.

As to pre-op, stick to baked or grilled meats. Seafood and poultry (skinless) are your best choices. There really is no sence in getting burned out on the protein drinks before you even begin! Be careful with protein bars. Many of them are loaded with calories.

I'm hypoglycemic so I also have to watch my carb intake. I target (per my nut) +100 g/day. +30 g of the 100 is to be in fiber. As long as I stick to veggies for my carbs and Fiber One cereal for my fiber, I'm good. White potatoes are a very bad culprit for me. Stay away from white (unless it's skim milk) so..eat brown rice, brown breads (wheat, rye, whole grain, yams).

hope this helps...

Thanks Sherri...I am with you about taking biotin pre-op.  My hair was thin anyway and I am lucky I did not lose much. Lisa I buy them at cvs or walmart. Not expensive at all...DEB
