So Dr Olsen Called me this afternoon to say that my Vit D levels are a little low.  I am wondering do any of you add extra Vit D besides the calcium w/D and a multi?  She said if it was nice and sunny outside she would just order me outside but she wants me to add a 1000IU of D for now.

I only take Vitamin D if my calcium doesn't contain it.  I switch back and forth between the Bariatric Advantage cherry flavored calcium lozenges (Vitamin D supplement needed), and the BA unflavored calcium crystals (which need no additional Vitamin D).

Jeannie,  My doctor has me take 2000 per day.  He says people in Indiana don't get enough sun.  My husband's heart doctor told him the same thing.  We both take it.

Dr. Inman said to me at my check up last month I am one of the few people she's seen with normal Vit D levels. It's not just bariatric patients either. Alot of people are having that problem since we tend to stay inside more. I'd supplement if I were you.

You are right Vit D is something the general public is often low on.  When I had my first labs done 1 yr after surgery it was the only thing I was off on.  I had to increase my vit D and mag intake.  I would also suggest you all take a Vit d supplement.  Vit D should always be taken with Mag.  I always by a Calcuim with D and mag.  Then take my Multi vit seperate from them.  You get much better absorbtion if u take it all seperate and not just down them all together first thing in the morning.

I must have been a lil low from jump street too because her wording was "your vit D remains a little low"  Since I haven't had blood work since surgery I am assuming "since" would be since before surgery.  I guess that was my question "If you supplement, how do you do it".   So do I need to split up my Multi and Calcium for max absorbtion?  I was afraid of this..I really stink at remembering.  I have alarms set everywhere in my house and even my cell phone to help me remember.

yes u should take them at seperate times.  They all fight for the same receptor sites.  So you get much better absorption if u take them at different times.  If you dont have problems some ppl can get away with dumping all their vitamins in at once but usually thats just waisting money becouse u dont get the best results for your money and u end up peeing alot of it right out.

I take my chewable multi vitamin at meal time and my Cal =d=mag  with a snack.  I never take any pills on an empty stomach except my tyroid med and it has to be but I dont take it becouse of my RNY.  Ive been on it for yrs and yrs.

I am really far out and the last few years my Vit D levels have been a little low.  My doctor gave me a script for Vit D 50,000 IU that I take twice a week.  My Flintstone Chewables also have Vit D and Mag in them.  I don't take them together.  Nor do I take my Cal with D at the same time as the others.  I also take B1 once a week.  I have to write this stuff on my calendar. LOL

Mine are a little low, too. However, yesterday Ruthann (my nutritionist) told me I didn't have to take the dry Vit. D supplements as long as my calcium supplement contains D, which it does. Good...one less flippin' pill to take!!
