Hoosier Accountability - Thursday

Hi everyone! I had training all day today for the Post Office, so my schedule was really messed up.

Breakfast - 3:00 a.m., hot Click
On way to Indy - Sugar free mocha latte
Lunch - junior Steakburger from Steak & Shake with 1/2 the bun taken off...still couldn't eat it all. Had about 5-6 french fries and a few sips of Coke, then got a bottle of water for the afternoon.
On the way home from Indy - the rest of the cold steakburger
THEN, like a *#*@_ idiot...I had to stop at my Post Office to do a couple of things and ate a cookie and a marshmallow egg. Made me feel sick all the way home...serves me right...
Not really hungry for anything else. Calorie-wise, not a bad day. Food choice-wise, it sucked.

Jeannie,

I have a REALLY hard time finding a protein drink I like. I really like Achievone's but I won't recommend them to anyone less than a year post-op or anyone that says they have trouble getting their water in because they do have the equivalance of 1/2 c coffee per serving. As any nut will tell you, caffiene is notorious at causing ulcers to new pouches (not to mention, it is also an appetite stimulant and causes dehydration). The company that makes Achievone is in the process of switching from glass bottles to cartons similar to what boxed juicie's are in. With this transistion, there is NO AchievOne's to be had! Grrr..

So..I've been experiementing. I already know I cannot handle the taste and/or texture of most powders..but I do love hot chocolate and so-so with coffee anymore. I love the decaf lattes with skim milk and SF vanilla at the coffee zon. So....To keep my drink decaf, I bought a big container of the chocolate protein powder at WalMart. I mixed about 4 cups of it with 6 Tablespoons of decaf instant coffee and 1 c of sugar-free hot cocoa mix. I put about a tablespoon of the mixture in a small glass, added some water (~1-2 ounces) and taste tested it. I'd more of what-ever it tasted like it needed. I was going for the right balance of chocolate & coffee..I don't like either of them to be too prominant. Now I have a jar of mocha protein mix sitting on my counter! I make it with skim milk though to up the protein just a little bit more. I stir in the mix well with the milk cold before I nuke it (and I stir it about half-way through with the heating).

When I got the powder, I was looking for something flavorless so that I would have better control over how chocolatey it was with adding my cocoa & splend myself but they didn't have anything without flavoring. I haven't figured out how many g of protein each serving has but I would guess that it is ~20 g expecially with making it with the skim milk. So..I'd recommend your playing flavors you know you like and see if you can come up with your own healthy mix...tailor-made for your taste buds!
