Calling All St Francis Patients

I know most of you that had surgery at St Francis had Dr Clark not Dr Mandelbaum so this may or may not pertain to you.  I had my six month follow up appointment yesterday with St Francis.  When they called to confirm my appointment they said "you will not be seeing Dr Mandelbaum, you will see Dr Olsen".   I am like WTF are you talking about is Dr M going to be there is he gone or what?  So here is the deal.... Dr Mandelbaum will not see his patients after the first three months until they are one year out from surgery, Dr Olsen will be seeing us.  I was shocked at my first reaction was Ok he took my insurance money and now has tossed me to the wolves.  I was so pissed but didn't talk about it here because I was going to give St Francis and Dr Mandelbaum the benefit of the doubt and trust they made a good decision. 

When I met with Dr Olsen, (she is a woman) I asked what qualifications she has and what is her background with bariatric patients.  She is the first and only licensed physician in Indiana specializing in weight loss.  She is a doll and very thorough, so in the end I really think St Francis was right on track to let the surgeons operate and then have a physican follow up with our care.  Dr Olsen even has lost 90 pounds at one point in her life so she knows our struggles. 

I just wanted to put this out there so that if Dr Clark is using Dr Olsen too that you don't feel like I did initally and feel abandon by someone you have come to love and respect.  Of course you will have to decide for yourself if you like Dr Olsen or not but I wanted to share my experience.

Im glad that u ended up liking her but I would have been really ticked if my dr had done that without at least telling you about that before you surgery.  I think thats great how they are doing it ....but they should tell you before hand that that is how they handle it.  You have the right to be an informed consumer before u make the big decision of surgery!!!

Just my opinion for what its worth.

Here is the thing, thats just how I felt, I was pissed!!  I don't think this is something they knew six months ago when I had my surgery.  I think they have expanded their practice since they have changed locations (just my observation don't really know). 

I did ask them when I got to my appt "what if I don't like this doctor"?  They said if I was not happy with her then my surgeon would see me.  It just felt weird to have it thrown at me like that. 

I thank all the doctors do that...At clarien bartric at tiffany my daughters .DR. Mattar did her surgery and at her at her six months they had her see a woman doctor and tiffany at the time had a heart rate of 140 and signs of dehydration and the woman didnt even send her over to the hosp...we left there and I called her pcp and they said to go to the hosp....then she was taken care of ..on her 9 month check up we called and asked who she would be seeing they said the same woman and tiffany said no way ...she wanted Dr.mattar ...so they changed her to see him....so just ask for who you want  to see ..
