Anyone prediabetic prior to WLS

Hi just wondering if anyone was pre diabetic before WLS?  I am concerned that I won't be approved because I am borderline on everything, bp is 110/80 ( which is good), pre diabetic, no sleep apnea.  I do have joint pain, back problems, emotional, and the thing that has (besides pre diabetes) me wanting to do this is endometrial hyperplasia, or thickened lining of the uterus, my OBGYN, said it happens to women who are pre menopausal, or obese, in my case the latter since i am only 31.  She told me I needed to lose weight because this can lead to cancer.  I am just nervous that I won't be approved without being diabetic or other stuff.   I have to have a DC to thin my lining, but it will just come back because of the weight.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks again for all the warm welcomes, and good luck to all who have had or are having surgery now.

Michelle, I did not have sleep apnea and my diabetes was only diagnoised 2 weeks before surgery and I was already approved by then.  So don't sweat it.  They have lots of things they look at besides those.  Alot of it can depend on your BMI and then some of it can depend on your insurance company as well.  Even if they turn you down once, you can appeal.  Its never just a NO and forget it unless you want it to be.

Try not to worry about it until you hear from them.  We have been seeing a lot of approvals this week.

Huge hugs,
Tracy

Michelle, I was a very healthy fat person. My BMI got me approved. My BP was normal, I've had some elevated glucoses but they hadn't decided to call me diabetic yet. No diagnosed sleep apnea, though I do snore bad. Hopefully it will all work out for you!

Thanks, that makes me feel a lot better, my BMI is 37 1/2, so I know my insurance needs to have at least one complication from being so heavy, lets just hope my other stuff works.  Thanks again for the advice, I go to my meeting tonight, and am really excited.  Have a great night, and thanks again.

Michelle,

I would go ahead and go for it.  I had all the qualifiers.  The worst your insurance company can say is "No".  But then you can ask "Why not?".  Then you appeal or do whatever they say you have to do to qualify.  Keep you Chin up.  It will happen.

I was prediabetic before surgery, but it was only diagnosed around the  time I was approved. I did have pretty severe hypertension. I was on two meds for that.

Thanks for all the info, I went to the info session tonight, which reaffirmed my decision to do this, now I just need to prove to my insurance co that it is medically nessicary.  I am 16 lbs. away from the 40 BMI (Sad I almost thought about gaining more weight), then I would not need medical problems w/ it, I think our insurance system is so goofy, why not be proactive and try to prevent someone from fully developing co morbidity diseases.  I will call my family physician and get a check up, never really had one, don't know if I have high chol or not, they said if I did that  I would be covered.  Just frustrated but I am going to get my OBGYN on board too, since the problem I am having down there is related to obesity, hoping for the best, thanks for all the support.
