Lyn Update and advice needed

Well not much is new with lyn.  As far as waking up he has not really made any progress , continues with eyes open occassionally and responds to pain in feet and hands.  I still feel he knows us.

The Dr's come in daily and ask about code status and is this how he would want to live and what if he never gets better.  I stay pretty hopeful till they come in.  Lyn's kids were all here and all of our kids together and I have talked about what to do and they are all supportive of my decision to wait awhile longer.  I am not going to give up yet no matter what the Dr said.

They are doing a trach on Thursday for his vent since they are sure he will need it longterm.

Advice Needed:  He can probably be moved on Friday or Monday--I am thinking more Monday.  They want me to choose from 3 place that are available for his level of care.

Seton Speciality Hospital about 1 mile from 86th St St. V's

Kindred Hospital in Greenwood

Select Care Hospital in Greenwood

They recommend the top 2.  The ones in Greenwood would be about 1/2 hr each way closer to home.  I went and visited Kindred today.  It was ok, not near what St V's is but seems good.  He would be in ICU whereever he goes for awhile.  I will probably go tomorrow to Seton.  I want him closer to home but want him to have good care.  They said he would be here from 25 days to 6 months or more.  If anyone has any advice, please let me know.

Thanks again for your continued prayers and thoughts.  It means so much.  Terry

Terry I don't have any ideas about either one, but I guess if it were me, I would go for kindred.  Still good care and being closer to home for you.  If this becomes a long term thing, you could still very easily get to him while still allowing you to save money and be at home too in the evenings.  I know you don't want to leave him but you also need to take care of you so that you can take care of him when he does get to come home and being closer to home will allow that.  I am praying daily for Lyn.  I know I am new to the group here, but I don't live but about 15-20 min from St. V's and can bring you anything you might need.

Hi Terry,
I am praying for you & your decision. I know Seton was wonderful to Sherri, plus, there was a calming peace there. I felt like she was in the best hands God could provide. Which ever you choose, know you are supported & loved.
I hope you have been using the journal and finding hope in all of this. God is with you.
Love,

I am so sorry I missed you.  I have just left the hospital about 3 times briefly but I did go this evening to Greenwood to look at Kindred Hospital.  I then did some laundry during the 7-830 time period when we cannot visit in ICU.  Sorry about that, I would have loved to met you.  Did you actually get to see Lyn at all?  Terry

Terry, Just wanted to say hello to ya!  I am praying for you and Lyn daily.  We are here for you if there is anything we can do.  I also think that if there is a facility on the list that is close to your home and you feel comfortable with, that you should go with it.  It will make you feel more secure to go home if you know you can make it to him in a shorter distance.  I know you will spend alot of time with him and the drive home wont be as hard for you.

Keep your faith and pray about it.  God will help you make the decision.

Huge hugs,
Tracy

Terry,

I know you dont' know me but I feel we are all family here.  I don't really have any advice on hospitals but I do live abotu 10 min from Kindred in Greenwood.  I have an extra room here anytime you need one.

That being said, I dont' think you can beat any care from St. Vs.

I will continue to keep Lyn, you and your family in our prayers.
