I've started to write this post a couple times, but have stopped, because I guess I feel so ashamed....I will be three yrs post op the 13th of this month...guess I figured I was a "pro" at lapbanding, but I still have learning to do....Biggest lesson....just because you can eat alot, doesn't mean you need a fill.....

My story is this:
Been getting my fills done at Dr. Currys office....Last Feb. I had a fill with him....about 2 months later, when I thought I could use a fill, I decided to look for a fill doc closer to my fort wayne indiana area to save on gas costs and travel time..I found one...paid the 75.00 fee for the nut. binder they offered, then had a fill in July(440.00 for the fill and firt visit exam....OUCH!   travel and gas would have been cheaper, but I was happy to only be 45 min from home....pretty agressive with their fills...gave me a 1.0cc fill...but it did the trick, and I started losing

November saw me needing another fill...I could eat ANYTHING, including a 6 inch sub from subway with no prob......went into the fill dr (fort wayne), paid my 270.00 for my fill....and the Nurse suggested a fill of 1.4 cc in my VG band...this was on Dec. 22...for the first 24 hrs. my fill seemed GREAT....of course the horrible restriction didnt some untill Christmas eve....I suffered through to Jan 2...office was closed for the holidays, and I was leary of letting an emergency room attendant poke around at my precious port...I was able to get fluids in and eat very small meals...and only occasional small reflux at night...had my unfil and felt worlds better.......Was back to eating ...but I couldn't understand why with only a .4 unfill it seemed like ALL my restriction was gone...I could eat ANYTHING...I decided to head back to Cincy to see Dr. Curry

Within TWO MINUTES of talking to one of his fill nurses  (a male nurse *****ally knows what he's doing BTW), he said we needed to take a look under fluro...My pouch was stretched...bad...Unfilled to 5.0 cc in my VG band and a visit to the nutritionist...I'm back on track and watching my servings CLOSELY...whats funny is ---I sit down and eat 1- 1  1/2 c. foods and feel such good restriction..hoping this means my pouch is shrinking, but I won't know for another 3 wks when I return to Cincy and see Dr. Curry

Theresa, don't feel ashamed. That's what we're here for. And this whole thing is a learning curve isn't it? Glad you figured out what was going on and have gotten things turned around. Wishing you best of luck in the future. Keep us posted.

Sounds like you did the right thing by going back to Dr.Curry
I dont know much about lapbands, but you went with your instinct that something wasnt right.
Nobody knows your body better that you.
Good luck sweetie

I am so glad you posted your story.  I am trying to learn more about lap banders because I am starting a support group for WLS patients in my area.  I have no experience with lap bad and know nothing about it (much) so I am glad to learn from here.  I appreciate the ones of you who share openly with us.  I know its a very personal decision to go with a certain procedure or a certain Doctor.  I think the valuable knowledge we gain from one another is something that cannot be replaced by any other source.

Good luck with your getting back on track and getting that pouch back into shape!  YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Huge hugs,
Tracy
