do you have to be really careful after gastric bypass to not get pregnant
ok .is it very easy to get pregnant after rny.i have an 18yr old was never able to get pregnant after him.been to dr and took clomid .i have pcos.im not wanting one now.my son is 18 .just wait and hope the good lord gives me grand kids.but if i would become pregnant is it hard to give the baby what it needs nutrients and so fourth. you go for 16yrs without any bith control method and all the sudden you have to think about it after the surgery.what do you ladies use if you dont mind me asking. i cant take b control.
My surgeon made it clear that birth control was a high priority after surgery, even if you have/have had problems with fertility. I was like you and had pcos and didn't have to worry about birth control before...I didn't even have periods unless the doctor made me take my meds to have one. After surgery, my hormones were all out of whack and I started having periods and I realized my surgeon wasn't kidding when she said to make birth control a priority.
I went on the pregnancy board to find out what birth control methods they liked and which ones failed them and caused them to get pregnant. Some of the women got pregnant while using the pill, others with nuva ring. I heard nothing but good positive things about Mirena IUD.
I tried pills for the first month, but my body didn't absorb them properly so I went ahead with Mirena. I've had it for about 3 months now and I have no complaints! My suggestion is if you think you might want Mirena, you try to get it done before surgery. It's one less thing to worry about afterward when you are trying to get in all your vitamins, protein, fluids, etc.
Best of luck to you!

Unlike you I do want to get pg again but know I can't for at least a year after my surgery. I have never really been on birth control either... PCOS kept me from having any cycles on my own. I have one son from fertility treatments. I started using the Nuvaring after surgery and I love it.....It is simple and easy... no pill to remember and I don't have to worry about it not absorbing.

At my pre-op class they told us after wls your fertility comes back quickly! They also said you should not get pregnant for the first 18 months. You need to be on birth control. You are just not taking in enough nutrition for both you and a baby. That must be pretty serious if a Catholic hospital (St. V's) is telling you to use birth control. I was like, "I've had a tubal ligation. Do I need to use anything else, because I will?" Hehe. They said no, that would be sufficient.
I had the Mirena IUD put in a month before surgery....Just to make sure. I also couldn't get preg. after My 16 yo was born (then My miracle Bella...12 years later) No More for me! IUD last 5 years.
