I'm Approveded.....again!!!
I was just called by my insurance, and I'm approved. I can't believe it's finally going to happen. I had been approved in December and couldn't get the surgery done before the end of the year, and our insurance was changing the 1st of the year, so we had to submit everything all over again. I had really given up hope and was coming to terms with not having the surgery done. Now my emotions are all over the place. The doctors office will be calling me back later today after they call my insurance to verify what they told me and get the approval number and I hope, to set a date. My next hurdle is to decide what I want to tell my employer. I really don't feel it's anyones business what I'm having done, but I don't want to lie either. Any suggestions? I am in Fort Wayne, In. Anyone else from this area? I read everday the posts on here and the main board, but I don't post much myself. There is a great deal to learn about the process and I appreciate all the information everyone supplies.
First of all, congratulations! I remember my excitement when it finally became obvious it was going to happen. Secondly, tell your employer. He/she does have a right to know why you will be off work, plus...you're going to be losing a bunch of weight and they'll figure it out anyway!
I'm excited for you, get ready for lots of WOW moments!

Joanna, Hi!! I am Paula Crill from Ft. Wayne. I had surgery on Dec. 31. Dr. Sloan and his staff are great. They will help you so much, write down all questions before going in...it is very busy.
Two girls in my group had surgery on mon and tuesday, both went back the monday after. Both had desk jobs--they both said they are fine just tired--remember no lifting over 10 lbs. I hope this helps....Good luck!!!

Joanna,
Welcome! So glad to hear you'll be joining us on the loser's bench!!
With regards to your employer - if you have a desk job without any lifting I would just tell them you're surgery. You don't have to go into details if you don't want to. Tell them when it's scheduled and how much time you'll need off. As a suggestion if your surgeon suggests you be off for 3 weeks. I went back 1/2 days the 2nd week and full time the 3rd. I didn't have paid time available and had to go back. If you have 3 or 4 weeks go back 1/2 days for a week to get your mail caught up. I couldn't believe how tired I was after 4 hours of sitting up...of course I had to go back sooner than I should have
I was completely open about my surgery BUT I have the type of employer who was very understanding about it and an AWESOME support system in my office. You know whether you have that or not.
Hugs!

Congrats on the approval again and welcome to the boards. I know my employer seemed to be ok with all mine, although I was off little longer then most but I also work for St Vincent where I had it done and was the 4th one out of my department that had this done so they were pretty with the program by the time I decided to do it lol.
