A Freindly Hello

Just wanted to pop in and wish everyone a blessed day
I'm not in IN but I do visit often my stepdaughter and my mother in law lives in IN
I was wondering if anyone here is close to Jeffersonville , clarksville or Loogootee IN
I had the RNY and my mother in law had the lap band , I've given her the web site
her name is sue please help her all that you can as I am trying and she is really new to anything dealing with this.

Hi Renee' (My middle name and it's spelled the same too )

Tell your MIL to stop in any time our girls are friendly and will help in any way we can.  I'm not from the area where she is but I'm sure some of the girls are.  I haven't seen too many people at the support groups I've been to with the lap band yet. 

Not sure if you know but she can go to a message board that has only people with the bands on it.

 I will indeed tell her to stop in , No I didn't know there were a site just for bands.
I'm sure it's much different then what I had 4 years ago as I had the RNY
so I'm not alot of help to her but I do all that I can.
I was hoping when I come to IN to meet up with some ppl on the board
it's always nice meeting ppl that share the same experiences as yourself.

If you would could you please tell me how I can tell her to get to the site with just the bands
maybe this could be helpful to her as she is in her 60's and I really don't think she knew what she was getting into when she jumped on the wagon ...lol

btw Renee' is my middle name as well I don't use my given first name as it sounds way old fashioned ..... I don't know what my parents were thinking at that given moment ...laughing

I completely understand about her not knowing what she was getting into with the band.  I had my RNY in August and within 3 months a coworker had the lapband.  My weight has come off pretty steadily but not so much for my coworker.  She's figure out how to "work" the band and she eats more than I do.  Heck, she came back for surgery eating more than I did 3 mos out from the RNY!  She eats things she shouldn't and I hear her say "now I can eat this cookie but Frankie can't because she'll have dumping syndrome" and in the next breathe she's complaining because she's only lost 20 some lbs since surgery.  It's very frustrating! 

I tried to tell her she would loose about 50 lbs the first year and it would be MUCH slower than my weight loss has been.  She wouldn't listen.  Then Friday she told me she'd like to have the RNY.  I told her she shouldn't have it because she's already proven she won't follow a diet plan and she'll end up killing herself - she just shrugged her shoulders! 

I think Christie's given you directions to the lapband area of the OH website..which is good because I couldn't remember where I saw it! LOL

I've been going to support groups for a couple of years now - I'm not sure where your MIL had her surgery but she would benefit from the support group meetings if she's not going to any.  In the meetings I've been to I would say I've met 2 or 3 people with the band who've lost over 90 lbs - which is wonderful!  Not sure how much your MIL needs to loose but tell her to hang in there and come see us on the board!

Hi Renee' - she can click on "forums" up at the top, then select "Surgical Forums".  When that expands, she can select "Lap Band".  Hope this helps.  If she comes to the Indiana forum, we'll be sure to give her a warm Hoosier welcome.
