I got word recently that I have been accepted into the Support Group Leader training for Obesity Help.com.  I will go thru their training program and eventually be able to start a Support Group in Marion.  I am so excited about it!

I am also excited that I will be getting updated information on a monthly basis from OH about all the latest products, procedures, events, and all that sort of thing.  It will be an amazing learning process and a great way for the people in our area to have a support group here.

Huge hugs,
Tracy

That's great, Tracy! You will be a wonderful support group leader and have much to offer. Also, wonderful to have a friend who can keep us updated on the upcoming OH events.

How awesome for you!  You will be so good at it.  Let us know about upcoming events.  We need to start petitioning for OH to have a big event here in Indianapolis!  We've definitely got the venues for it!

I can't wait till I am far enough out to volunteer for the Bari Buddy program at St. V - it would be my way of giving back.

What you're doing sounds so good.  How did you go about applying?

Congratulations Tracy!!!!  That is so great!  I really wish that your support group in Anderson was run by a WLS grad.  The guy that runs it is very nice but he has never dealt with a weight problem.  I just like to be led by someone that has been there, ya know?

That is going to be so great!  I like the idea of an event here in Indiana!

What is a BariBuddy @ St. V's?  someone mentioned it?

This explains the Bariatric Buddy program better than I can.  It's from St. V's website:

Bariatric Buddies!

If you are a patient that is at least 9 months post-op and willing to share your experiences and be a support for other patients – WE NEED YOU! The St.Vincent Bariatric Center of Excellence has always made an effort to connect patients with other patients so that a strong support system can be developed as the journey to a healthier lifestyle begins. As the Bariatric Center of Excellence continues to serve more patients, we need to take the opportunity to recruit more buddies. If you have a desire to help, please contact Becky Foster at the Center (317-582-7992).

We will  be scheduling a second  2 hour initial training class for new buddies.  If you have previously called to get on the list, no need to call again- you will receive a letter notifying you of the next training date.  Thank you!!

I had a Bariatric Buddy the day of my surgery.  She sat with my husband and myself in the pre op room clear up until I went to the OR, and gave me a little gift basket with a mug, SF pudding cup, samples of protein, and a sport bottle.  She was a doll.  And I already "knew" her from my membership on another message board!

Thanks girls for all your kind remarks.  I just know that it has been so good to have the support of the friends on here and I want the community here to have a support group.  I know there are several that would benefit and I know I will as well.  The more accountability, the better... and the more support and knowledge we share the better our journey will be.
