OT-Steroid??

I was at my pcp today and he says I have walking pneumonia and bronchitis.  This was all confirmed via tests as well.  Grrr.... I thought this cough was hanging around a bit too long.  I am starting a round of steroids,  along with anti biotics.  i have never taken a steroid before.  My parents had/have been on them before and it was crazy what they had to go through.  My dad developed diabetes from steroids and my mom got this moon faced weigh gain from them.  Both of them were on them long term at times due to their illnesses.
What can I expect from being on a steroid?  I have had bronchitis before but not pneumonia.  So this is kinda scary for me.
Blessings to you all, Leah

Leah, you should not have those kinds of effects from being on steroids for a short time for an illness. You see those long term effects in patients who take them for months/years. They will most likely make you very hungry and thirsty, normal reaction. They also could make you feel a bit jittery/hyper. Hope you feel better soon.

Leah,  I was on them once short term and it wasn't all that big of a deal.  I did have some issues with nausea when I would eat but I think that too can be normal with steroids.  Try not to worry too much about it and focus on getting better.

Melissa, thanks so much for your response.  I love that we have nurses on here that can share their knowledge with us.  Terry would have posted if she weren't in the hospital for sure.

I hope you are better soon Leah!

huge hugs,
Tracy

Leah,

I get asthmatic bronchitis a couple of times a year  (like now) and the only way for me to kick it is a 2-3 week stint of prednisone.  The only side effect I ever have...is that I feel great...LOL..usually every ache or arthritis pain I have disappears for about a month...no sleeplessness, no hunger, nothing.

The short term course of steriods should not cause a problem.  The moon face takes being on the meds for some time to develop, as does DM.

I've called Dr. Cacucci's office to see if I'm to early to have the prednisone, but they didn't call me back today...I hope I can...otherwise the cough lasts 3-4 months...

With steroids Dr Cacucci told me i need to take something to coat my stomach first because they are hard on your tummy. I have the reverse effect and have aches and pains when I take them.
