I wish...
I wish I had good news to share but I don't. There was 3 phases to the testing today. Dr. Wittles (my GI at IU) did all three of them.
Phase 1: Endoscopy. Dr. Wittles didn't think he'd see anything woo-hoo there, but he did end up doing some biopsies. Of what or why, I don't know. He also placed the catheter down y nose, etc for Phase 2 & 3 and had it x-ray'ed to be sure it was in a good place. He did say that my stoma looked very good.
Phase 2: A 6 hour 'fasting' monitoring of my intestines & their mobility. OMG, did that hurt! I had to lay on this table that had MAYBE 2" of padding. If I moved at all to try to give my back a break, the tubing in my nose dug into my nose & throat. I was wide awake for 5 of the 6 hours. Not good!
Phase 3: Eat/Drink and then an additional 2 hours of monitoring to see how the intestines behaved once that something was in them. I couldn't do this portion. I tried. I honest to goodness tried. I got about 10 sips of this yucky Ensure down...and it ALL came back up! I'm pretty sure it made it to my pouch but after that, it refused to go any further. I know Dr. Wittles was frustrated but I couldn't help it. Then they removed that catheter. Even my gall bladder drain tube was a piece of cake compared to this thing!! I'm gagging & vomitting the whole time the nurse is trying to remove it.
So now....
Dr. Wittles is going to look at what data they were able to get & see if any conclusions can be drawn from that at all. He'll also be getting those biopsy results in. He wants to consult with a few other specialists and then call Dr. Gupta and see if a game plan can't be reached. He does think that there is a motility issue but since I couldn't keep down anything, we don't have the proof of that..not with this test anyway. I'm to call his office a week from tomorrow & see if they've come to some decisions.
Since I've been home I've been able to keep down mushroom soup and I'm drinking some sf hot chocolate now. My throat is so sore. The heat is soothing to it. The first thing I did was take some pain meds though. My throat hurt..but so did my stomach, my back, and my head. At least right now, I'm down to it just being my throat. It was alot rougher test than I think I was prepared for. Actually...I knew it was going to be bad, but I figured it couldn't be much worse than everything I've already been through. It was.
Please continue to keep my in your prayers. Please keep these specialists in your prayers. I can imagine that you all are tired of hearing me complain about all of this...and I am sorry for that. I want to assure you all though that this really had very little to do with my RNY or my plastics. ANY kind of stomach surgery could have caused this to happen to me since it was because of scar tissue (as was Brenda's). A woman who has had NO abdominal surgeries except a c-section can be just as likely for this to happen to. It just all depends on our individual bodies and how it makes scar tissue. Most people make just enough to close up an incision. Myself, I make it VERY rapidly. Just my qwirky body.
love you all!
Sherri
ps...Ellen & Gail...I'm trying not to talk much tonight. I'll give you a call tomorrow. Lisa...we're still planning on meeting you at Max & Erma's at 6 tomorrow night. I need that after today!!

Sherri,
I've been thinking of you since I got up this morning and wondering how things went. I am so sorry you had to go through all that and still no definite answers.
WIll keep you in prayer that the Lord guides the doctors to pursue finding the problem and a complete healing for you. God must think you are a pretty strong individual to have given you so much trial and tribulation these past few years. Stay strong and keep looking up.

Hi Sherri,
Wow!!! That sounds like quite an ordeal. I was thinking about you and hoping all went well. Hopefully they can give you some answers. I think there is nothing worse than not knowing.
Hang in there girl.
