drink question
Okay, so I have to get in on this. Frankie---You are right, my yellow sheets say 3-6 months to avoid carbonated beverages. I guess I don't have to feel so bad now when I take sips of my husbands.
I have taken a few drinks of my husbands, as I said. I haven't had any trouble. However, one time I was really thirsty and I drank it fast....now that was bad. The carbonation didn't have anywhere to go (I think). But if I drink it normally I don't have trouble.
Also, I was advised by the NUT at St. V's to drink 100% juice. Not all the time. I was dehydrated and she suggested I try it. Now, if I am feeling icky or having a grouchy pouch I will drink a little. I also hear that they suggest it during ketosis to help flush the body of keytones(SP?). I can't speak to that...but the nut did tell me to drink juice. I have had maybe 12 oz in the last 3 months. I don't want the extra calories either. I also still have some high blood sugars and I don't want to elevate those.
As for the phosphorous, it is true that Phos. attaches to calcium and rids our bodies of some. However, I have to say that a LOT of foods that are good for us are high in phosphorous. Milk products are FULL of it. My Dad is a dialysis patient and he has to eat a low Phos. diet. He isn't allowed milk products, peanut butter, potatoes, chocolate (even diet hot cocoa). So, in my opinion, I can't think that diet soda would be worse. Obviously, I am NO expert.
For me, I have trouble getting in the fluids. So, I don't think I will add the diet soda at this point. But it is GOOD to know that I can maybe have one from time to time without feeling like a big Cheater! Thanks EVERYONE for the information/opinions.
I think like so many things it is going to have to be a personal preference.

I'm two years out as of June 19th and I haven't had soda in two years. My doctor strongly advised against drinking soda it as the carbonation expands.. I drink crystal lite once a day and then plain water the rest of the time. I sometimes add fresh lime juice to water and it's a pretty good alternative to lemons..
I won't lie, I still have a difficult time getting all of my fluids in some days and it's vital to survival in hot Arizona.
