Are you girls sure we aren't allowed to drink Diet Soda? I had my surgery on 8/8/8 and I've been drinking diet soda since my 3rd month. I was told I needed to wait that long to have it. The first couple of times I drank it I didn't fini**** because of the fizz. After a while I was able to drink a 12 oz bottle. Of course it takes me all day and I only drink 12 oz of soda a day PERIOD. Everything else is water, tea or crystal light.

Hi Frankie
Rules with WLS seems to vary ALOT! But in my paperwork it says to not have any carbonated drinks at all. And my surgeon told me this face to face. He said (and the paperwork too) that it will cause your pouch to stretch due to the gases it produces. And you can have really bad indigestion. My friend that tried a diet coke... thought she was having a heart attack it hurt so bad.
It seems some of us can have some things and some can't. For me getting back on diet pop would be getting back into some bad habits. I don't want to even go there...

I was told to stay away from anything carbonated. Reason being the carbonation will expand in your pouch and cause discomfort and even pain. That will possibly cause your pouch to stretch too. I stopped drinking diet pepsi last January.
I was told that diet drinks have so much sugar alcohols in it, that isn't healthy either.
I don't plan on going back to any carbonated drinks. I stick to water... special K protein powder added to my water and crystal light.
Cassie I would be afraid to try it. I have a friend who tried some diet coke and she wishes she hadn't. She had terrible indigestion from it.

I thought fizz sounded good too....but it felt HORRIBLE!! although your pouch is healed enough that it wont hurt your incision line, the carbobation on our tiny tummies is almost too much to bear. it fills your stomach with gas instantly, and it SUCKS!!
not that i am saying do this, but i was at a party (outdoors) and i had run out of water, so i flattened some caffeine free diet soda....it tasted disgusting, but i didnt expect much, i just know i needed a drink. I am 2 months out, our paper's say to wait 6 months to a year to try it, but, again, if you put it in a glass and stir it like crazy with a metal spoon, it might just be enough of a taste to satisfy you....then again, i prefer no soda to flat soda.
hope this helps!

I don't know who is your DR. or your Cenetr But here is what Clarian says....NO DIET SODA. It has carbonation. Carbonation is a gas and gas expands. As in your pouch. I am 9 months. twice I have accidentally drank carbonation ( New Years Sparkling grape juice and a Diet Cherry limeade) 1 Drink is all it took. OUCH! Massive pain. We are also not to drink or take alka seltzer because of the bubbles. I drink flavored water, tea w/ splenda/ decaf coffe or skinny drinks from Starbucks. Diet Lipton flavored teas. I like being little more than I like my pop and i would drink about 90 ounces of coke a day before last year! IT"S NOT WORTH IT! Studies show if you go back to drinking carbonated beverages...ie pop. You have a good chance of gaining weight back.

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou has done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
ok Ladies... I've been thinking about the carbonation thing all afternoon now, because I really am NOT a rule breaker.
So I drove home -faster than the law allows (because I do like to speed - hmm guess I do break rules
) but not faster than my
can fly. The first thing I did when I got here was get my Yellow pages out. On page 8 of my yellow sheets it tells me to avoid carbonated beverages for 3 - 6 months. So I really haven't been breaking the rules -whew!
I guess everyone needs to check out their yellow pages because they told my class they'd just updated the pages and were working on another update. So it could be possible mine says it's ok and yours doesn't???
No wonder we are confused!
