Hi there, IN OHers!  Going tomorrow to my new 2nd home near Indianapolis and just realized how close I will be to Trader Joes- less than 3 miles!  I've heard about this place and was wondering if any of you have suggestions for what to look for in the way of high protein, low carb ideas.  While my DH is at our son & his new bride's new house in Greenwood, getting carpet cleaned before they get back from honeymoon,  I have a brief meeting in Indy and want to check out Trader Joe's before leaving the area.  Any ideas or suggestions?  Thanks so much! And Happy New Year!!!

Jeanie,

I rarely go there but their B12 sublinguals dissolve better than the others I usually get at Walgreens.

I love Trader Joes! I go there every time I am in Indy. They have a wide selection of Chicken sausage, I really like the cilantro sausage, it is very spicy. They also have some Indian food that is very high protein and fiber. Also a big selection of dried fruit and nuts. They really have a wide variety of ethnic foods available and I enjoy trying new foods.  I bought some Jerk Chicken last time I was there, but have not tried it yet. If you like cheese they have most any kind you could want. The prices can be a little high, but we don't eat much. Take your time and explore the whole store. I will not get back to Indy until my one year appointment in Feb. Have fun shopping and don't be shy about trying new things.

Sherri & Cathy, thanks for the response.  Cathy, thanks for the suggestions.  I'll check back early in the morning in case someone else has any thoughts on Trader Joe's.        Jeanie

If possible, bring a cooler with ice.  Their frozen seafood is a great deal.  I love having some salmon or tuna around, so easy to grill or bake for an easy dinner.  They have some that are pre-seasoned, others that are plain.  Shrimp is also a good deal.

Frozen veggies, fries (for oven baking), and potstickers are other favorites.  They also have bags of ready-to-cook meals like chicken fried rice, several types of stir fries and lo meins, and other things like that.  All relatively healthy for the band diet.

I love their organic marinara sauce with basil, it's soooo good.  I like to make a healthy chicken parm with some baked chicken, that sauce, and a little cheese on top.   Other great sauces include their curries, marsala sauce (great with chicken breasts, I saute extra mushrooms and onions and mix in with sauce), and veri teriyaki sauce.  They have a good selection of rice, white or brown.

Have fun!

Hey Jeanie...

I like Trader Joes boxed gourmet soups....they have a lid and you can pop them right back in the fridge...Don't forget that just a few minutes east of Trader Joes is the Whole Foods Market (Formerly Wild Oats).  They specialize in organic and gourmet foods.  They are on the same street on the north side of the road.  Enjoy..Michelle

Thanks, Deb & Michelle & others!  I had a blast!!!  Didn't see these last couple of posts until after the fact, but did get 3 boxed soups that look marvelous, along with some nuts, cookies- mostly for DH, :) trail mix, cheese and some frozen vegetable lasagna that looks great.  I shall return in a few weeks!  Nice to hear from our sunny side of KY neighbors!  Happy New Year!
