Whew, I'm home

Well, I waited until Friday to call Dr. E's office. Only problem was, they were closed. So I paged Doc on call. Dr. Inman called me back and suggested I go to the ER. My sister picked me up and we were off. When I got to the ER, I truly felt 100X worse than I had on Monday. The ER nurse checked my BP and HR when I went from laying to standing. My heart rate would jump from 90 laying down to 150 when standing. I became short of breath when up and my BP skyrocketed. I truly about passed out on cutie Aaron in the ER. They gave me 2 L of fluid and admitted me. 2 strikes and I was out! Dr. Inman put me on protonix drip just to be on the safe side. She said that if I had the start of a small ulcer it could be making it difficult for me to get all my fluids in. I stayed 2 days and came home this morning. Thought I was feeling like a million bucks at the hospital, but we stopped at Meijer to pick up a few things on the way home and I got very tired while walking around. Came home and started pushing the fluids.

Anyone have tricks for getting it all in? Even in the hospital when I had nothing to do but sit and sip, I only got 44 oz in. I don't get it. This can't keep going on. Suggestions?

I never found a magic way to get it all in.  Just keep sipping and do the absolute best you can.  Use a water bottle with a sport top on it and keep it in your hand at all times.  That will remind you to take a sip.

Keep trying.  You can do it.

Whew Melissa!  You had us all worried!

I have several sport bottles that hold 32 oz. and have the markings on the sides.  My favorite one also has an insert for the mouth of it that permits sips only to keep ice in the bottle.

I fill it about 1/4 up with ice and then with water up to the 32 oz mark.  I try to have it nearly drained by lunch time, and refill it and drain it again.  There's 64 oz.  It goes wherever I go.

Don't forget that popsicles count as fluid too.

It's a little easier for me to get it in.  I can just about drink normally with no problem for some reason.  I never use a straw (and I always did before).  I tend to gulp, so when I do, I catch myself before I swallow and then swallow the large mouthful of water a little at a time.  I am trying to break that habit!

Now today, I have not done so well.  I can tell too.  I've only had 16 oz of Crystal Light today and that's it.  I have to up my fluids pronto, as I don't feel well, and I recognize what's going on.  So I'm finishing up my lunch, and will start on fluids as soon as I can!

Take care of yourself!!

Melissa, I still have issues with it.  I have to just keep a dang bottle attached to me at all times.  When watching TV I try to drink during every commercial... I have to really push myself.  Have you been using the flavors?  Sometimes that helps to make a change to make it better.  I get tired of water sometimes.

Don't push yourself physically yet.  You need to get up and move and walk but don't over do it.  Once you get your liquids balanced again... you will be able to get up and about much better.

I'm glad you are home.

Huge hugs,
Tracy
