Question - need some assistance here
Hubby is talking about taking me to the movies tomorrow. The smell of popcorn will be all around me.
I know I can't have popcorn, or a diet coke. My question is other than water, what could I possibly sneak into the movie in my purse as a snack?
I am only 17 days out, so I am still on full liquids as listed in the yellow sheets (for you St. V folks), and am doing just fine. It does list Low fat cheese as a protein source and something I'm allowed to make a meal from.
My question is: does that include the LF string cheese? Could I take a piece of string cheese with me and nibble that throughout the movie as long as I subtracted that from my lunch allowance of food? I know it has to be thoroughly chewed. Is cubed cheese better?
I'm just trying to think of something that will help me get through my first movie out as a post op - I'm used to sharing a bucket of unbuttered popcorn (I can't stand buttered popcorn!) and having a medium diet coke at the movies. (I used to sneak in my own popcorn at the movies a lot as I thought that movie popcorn had too much salt too.... I actually like my popcorn either with just a shake of table salt, or totally plain. will be glad when I can someday have popcorn again - I have an air popper, which the nut said at pre op class we needed for popcorn)
Anyway, if you can give me some ideas that would be absolutely great. Thanks!

I've never seen the "yellow sheet" as I was a Clarian patient. But could you do the yogurt that comes in a tube?
Annette
I can eat as much as I want...I just don't want much.
I'm ashamed of what I did for a Klondike bar...
hey there...maybe you can just sneak a sf puddin or jello in or a cheese stick...honestly i bet once the movie starts food will be the last thing on your mind....i know you cant have protein bars yet but i would carry those around when i go places or nuts.....i would bring a flavor sf water pack....get a water and sip thru the movie..... :)enjoy the movie....also snackin can get dangerous...so be careful with that....i started snackin and i am just now a year out....wish i never started...its slowing down my weightloss... my 1st movie outing...i brought a water in my purse and a water flavor pack.....just ate one of my meals before hand...ummm not sure ..but something like cottage cheese, refried beans or soup....by the time i got there i was able to drink and food never crossed my mind....
have a great time!!

thanks ladies. I'm having one of my usual post Christmas letdown crying fests. I told my husband that having to give up cigarettes, food, diet coke, and wine in the same lifetime was absolutely not fair.
Damn - I thought I was done with the "why in the hell did I do this to myself" stuff.
Thanks for your suggestions. I appreciate it. Really.

I'm with Leah, it's hard for me to disassociate going to the movies with having popcorn, so I haven't gone. There have been a couple of great movies playing that I really want to see, but I just know it's too much of a tempation to have popcorn or soda, so I've avoided it.
I've done terrible with my eating this week, because of all of the get togethers. At everyone, I felt the strong urge to constantly snack, and sometimes I did. It wasn't good, but I just have to get back on the boat tomorrow and try to stay afloat.
I'm two months out, and I still cry and ask myself why I did this. I mean I KNOW why, but sometimes I just really miss all that I had to give up, and it gets hard to keep my eye on the prize, a healthier, happier lifestyle.
Hang in there girlie. It will get easier.

Hi Christie
My thing is I am trying to disassociate fun things like going to the movies, with eating. Think of going to the movies and just like you said.. you think of sitting and eating, whether it be popcorn or whatever.
Keeping my activities from revolving around eating is a challenge. But it is something I am doing. I grew up with eating as a way to celebrate things... win a ballgame, go out for pizza. Have a birthday... go out to eat... etc.
So for me, going to the movies will be something to learn to not want to eat anything. Just like sitting in front of the TV or when I am bored.
Let me know how you do?

I think string cheese is fine for your stage, because if I remember right, you can eat cheese in the full liquid stage. My mom, who also had the surgery, used to carry string cheese a lot as her meal for when she was out.
I am almost 8 months out and I still ask that question! What the hell did I do? Then I go and put on a pair of jeans. I haven't been able to wear jeans for about 10 years at least! YYYYYYYYYYYIIIIIIPPPPPPPEEEEEEEE! Then I have a spell and then I am back to the same old question again! I hope you can go ahead and go enjoy the movie and like they said eat you meal before going and if your Hubby doesn't get the popcorn I think you will be fine! Michelle
Christie,
Low fat string cheese should be fine. At your stage, I would think that it would be better for you than cubed cheese since it is such a soft cheese. I use to love peeling off each piece. lol.
You may want to keep it tucked in your purse though...and who knows? Maybe you can get through the entire movie without wanting to munch at all. Munching during movie-time would be a good habit to break (trust me, I am preaching to myself here as well!).

ps...ask your nut if you can have Fuse Slenderize drinks. It gives a low cal option with some juices there.
