Ketosis again? Is it possible?
I have had issues the last three days with things smelling BAD.... everything smells BAD. Then when I want to eat something... it tastes weird... and somethings... AWFUL. I am wondering if it is possible to be in Ketosis again? Cause this is what it felt like the first time.
I couldn't eat my lunch because it smelled like a wet dog! What's up with that?! And my broccolli and cheese soup was just nasty last night. I love that stuff!

I had the same thing happen , but mine ended up being coming down with a cold. I sure hope you aren't getting it! Are you eating all of your foods- that can mess you up if you aren't. I know that we each are different, but I have a real sensitivity to certian foods- especially GARLIC, onions & peppers~ oh my gosh, I litteraly get ill by the smell! Just take it easy and do get your protien in hon. Journal what you are eating, ok?
What ever it is, I hope it passes quickly and you are back to your sweet, self soon!

You can buy a urine test kit to see. Most all drugstores will have it and mayne even WalMart.

For my first year I kept Welch's light grape juice in the house and drank some for a few days every time I would get that Blah! taste. And yes, you can go into ketosis more than once. Anyone can...pre or post-op..BUT...it is NOT a healthy thing!! It is not a sign that you are doing things correctly!! It is a sign that your body is not getting enough carbs and if it doesn't have that, it starts to burn muscle instead. We all need every bit of muscle we can get! So...confirm with your nut...but mine told me to target +100 g of carbs per day (+30 g of it should be fiber).

I thought when you were in ketosis, you were burning fat for energy, not muscle. At least, that's what Dr. Atkins said when I read his book and did his diet! I had awful breath and strong urine when I was on that diet, but I lost weight pretty quickly. Hard to stay on long-term, though. Well...any diet was hard to stay on long-term for me.

I didn't get my info from google..this time. LOL! I am good at googling things too. This time however it came from my dieticians. Talk with yours. I would advise anyone, when hearing something that conflicts with what you had thought (or had read...even if it is from a 'doctor'...like the Atkins program) to discuss it with their dietician &/or surgeon.
It does only stand to reason though that if a condition can cause all food to taste absolutely horrible and no tooth paste or mouthwash can get rid of the taste, how can that be healthy?
We really don't hear much about the Atkins diet anymore, do we? Hmmm...maybe word got out that it wasn't as healthy as once thought. I can't see where totally avoiding any food group could/would be healthy for anyone over the long term. That's the failure of 'diets'. Who can sustain them for life?
There are nutrients that we need in each thing that God put on earth....which is why he put them here. Your nuts can help you figure out how much of each to include in your food plan (I hate the word 'diet'). You can even over-do protein and under-do fats! So talk with them to find out what is the best amounts for you & your body in order to continue having a good and healthy weight loss. Once people are at the 'maintain' stage, they should revisit the topic to learn what they should target to stay at a healthy weight in the most healthy way possible. Remember that since our bodies are so individual...and our nuts, surgeons, and surgeries also differ....what one is told is best for them may not be what is best for the next person. Even Connie & Joe...Same hospital, same surgeon, same surgery, same nuts...may be told two different things because their bodies are not the same.

You're definitely right about the sources of our information...Google certainly isn't my only reference. I studied ketosis when I was researching the Atkins diet. I agree about completely cutting out an entire food group...it never made sense to me that fruits and vegetables were to be totally avoided on that diet. It was all the rage for a while because the results were fast, but like most other fad diets, the changes are not usually long-term.

Thanks Sherri. I guess I hadn't thought about it too much. But I bet that's exactly it. I have mainly only been eating my protein. I still only eat about 3 oz. and sometimes 4 oz at a time. So, I concentrate mostly on my protein intake. I bet it has gotten out of balance.
I am going to monitor it very closely for a couple days and see how it goes.
