I am wondering if I am dehydrated if I can fix it myself by drinking water?

Edited to add:
I am five months out and can drink a good bit of water.

Jeannie,

I have no idea but I I wanted to tell you that I think you are doing really good!

Now..my guess...
I would think that the biggie would be not to get dehydrated in the first place. It probably all depends on how dehydrated they are. I think that nausea happens if you are dehydrated...so the more you are dehydrated, the more nauseated you are...so...the less likely you will be of being able to keep water down just by drinking it. If you are just a little bit...say from having a 24 hour flu bug...then you could probably bounce back from that with no problem..and no IV.

On the surface I guess it seems I am doing really good....I am not!!!  I haven't been getting my liquids in and yesterday I ate sugar. I also had a spell at the music store when I was browsing while my son took his lesson.  I went to sit down and I totally blacked out and landed on the floor on top of drum kick pedals.  I hurt my neck and my knee nothing serious just a lil boo boo but it was scarey.  No I didn't go to the hospital or call my surgeon, I know what is wrong... duh me!

I baked goodies for my son's drum instructor and my grandpa and I ate some....well I ate a lot for a little tummy.  I also worked yesterday and its so hard for me to get my liquids in while I work. We aren't allowed to drink while we work (board of health rules) so trying to find time to drink during those 8 hours has been difficult.  I tried not to ask my supervisor for special privlidges because I wanted to be a "normal" person, its not working.  I intend to go in today even though its my day off and have a talk with them to see what / if provisions can be made for me.

I am not going to beat myself up and feel bad about this, it is what it is....I am going to learn from it and move on.   I am not perfect at this thats for sure.  Today is a new day and I fully intend to do what I know is the right thing.  Today I will measure my food, drink my water, eat only from my list of approved foods and take my supplements.   I also will be calling St Francis and signing up for the next series of Emotional Eating classes, I think its a good idea for me, I hated to spend the $50 on a class but sometimes you have to make yourself a priority and besides last week I spent that much on my hair, time to prioritize some things.

Jeannie, to answer your question,  Yes you can rehydrate if you are not too far down.  I am the queen of dehydration I think.  LOL.   When you get to the point of nausea and dizziness, you need to stop everything and make fluids your priority.  I get past the nausea with popsicles.  If I am at home and it starts to set in .... usually with a headache.... I eat a sf popsicle to make the nausea go away so I can drink water.  Once I get in a about a half a bottle of water, I can start pushing it with fluids and sf jello.

I battle this all the time.  It's my "down side" of the surgery if there is one.  So, I have learned to keep a bottle attached to my hand almost 24/7.  I think If I were you and couldn't drink at work, I would make sure to drink a bottle of water before going in and have SF Jello on each break.  The Jello seems to stick with me and helps with giving me more energy. Don't know why.

The other thing is South Beach flavoring has protein in it for your fluids.  That has to help some too.  It might be an option to help boost you a bit during your 8 hour shift.

Good luck!

Huge Hugs,
Tracy

Jeannie,

When I am not feeling right, the first thing I do now is drink water.  Most of the time after about 30 minutes of sipping, I feel better.  I have found more times than not when I don't feel well, it's because I am dehydrated.  So long story to get to your answer. Yes you can drink water to rehydrate yourself.
