Melissa, those children's multivitamins taste awful, don't they?  I'm surprised that kids will take them!  We are also supposed to be able to take liquid Centrum.  I haven't tried it - I figure it will taste bad - most of that liquid stuff does.  I'm wondering about the Bariatric Advantage vitamins.  I ordered some of their calcium citrate.  I currently have the Tropical Oasis liquid calcium citrate.  If that's what an oasis tastes like, I'd rather have the desert!  LOL

Anyway, yeppers - Flinstones taste nasty.  Especially Fred.

Question for you about your soup - did you actually put yours through a strainer?  I've just been spooning off the liquid, making sure I get no chunks of anything.  The cream of potato soup with just a pinch of low fat shredded cheese is fantastic and very satisfying.  I'll have to try cream of broccoli next.

The emotional meltdowns happen.  I've had a couple myself.  Hang in there, and come talk to us.  We've all had 'em. (and continue to do so....)

Love ya!!

Chris,

I've been using the BA calcium crystals and they are completely undetectable.  That and the unflavored BA protein have been 2 good things I picked wisely on.

You two and your soup choices perk me up....I haven't gone there yet....

I actually strained it and got out tons of chunks of broccoli. It was fabulous. I can't wait to try more creamy soups.

OK go to www.unjury.com and order the variety pack of protein powder and see which you can eat.  This is medical grade protein and one of the flavor will work if nothing else the unflavored can go in anything.  Hope you are going to support group?  They start up again in January.  Plainfield and Speedway are probably the closest.  Lots of hints from veterans.

Don't stress on getting it all in during the first 3 - 4 weeks just do the best you can.  If you are up take a vitamin or calcium.  I tolerate the Action Kids complete vitamin from walmart in Avon.  I use the flavors inside I hate the most and when  they are done I have good flavors left.  I order the Tropical Isle liquid Calcium from GNC.  The biggest help is USE THE YRLLOW SHEET.

A real good exhaust fan in the toilet area works and looking around to see who did it in a store gets you out of trouble with the smell that is left.  I can't tell you the time I cleared out an isle at the Walmart.

*snort* I cleared out an isle in Dollar Tree yesterday!  Had these teenagers walking around going "who farted in here??"

Geez it is so rank!  However, now I can defend myself against my husband and son!

Melissa,

The horrible taste in your mouth is ketosis.  Dr. Cacucci told me to drink 8 oz of grape juice every day for 3 days and it will help with the ketosis.

As for vitamins...I couldn't make myself gag down the flinstones so I talked to the nutritionists and they said I could buy the adult centrum vitamins and cut them in half.  You still have to take 3 a day (so 6 halves) but I found it much easier to swallow the pill than gag down the chewables.

Hope things start getting easier for you soon!!

Michelle, wait till you try some of the cream soups!  I make mine with a can of Lactaid milk added, stir 'er up, and skim off the "cream" leaving the solids behind.  Cream of potato has diced potatoes in it.  However, even after leaving those behind, it still tastes like homemade potato soup.  The surprising thing is that I can be satisfied with only an ounce.

BE has unflavored protein?  how are you using that?  We eat such small amounts that I am afraid what I eat would be just plain crunchy protein powder!!  Do tell, girlfriend... I am all ears.

Hey Chris,

I talked to the gal at the women's shop at St. V's on the day prior to surgery and was asking her if they had the Nectar Medical, which is their unflavored protein.  They don't carry the unflavored because 1 serving only has 10 gm of protein.  She showed me the Bariatric Advantage unflavored which has 27 gm of protein per serving.  Granted, I dont use an entire serving...but I sprinkle about 1/2 tsp in my "meal" and a few drops of water to mix....No taste and I manage something positive for my day.  It has NO aftertaste, which was a big worry to me...It just makes sense to sprinkle some into any of  the food I can from this point forward.

It's not crunchy or gritty...not with the water to liquefy it.

I had to start on extra protein prior to my surgery because my protein level was low to begin with...so I began experimenting way ahead of time..

I do have some cream soups I bought ahead of time...I'll try some today....after I get some extra water in!

Cool!  Wish I didn't live so far from St. V's.  It would be easier to pick it up rather than order from BE.  Thanks for the info!!!
