Secret Elf Information

To those who have asked about the Secret Elf Program…..

To participate, you need to first send Floyd an EMAIL to [email protected]. Include: full name, screen name, address, email address, special dates (birthday, anniversary, surgery), spouse/significant other's name, and phone #. This is so that you can get on the Hoosier Directory (which is emailed ONLY to those who are on it). I made it a requirement for any secret elf participants to be on the directory because it is just too hard for their elf (and me) to know where to send things, etc otherwise. We maintain this directory so that it makes communication easier. Let's say that you are going to be in Marion tomorrow. You could check on the directory, see that Tracy lives in Marion, and give her a call or drop her an email & see if she'd like to meet for lunch. The directory has often been used also for when we find out someone is in financial straights and could use a gift card, etc. I love to send flowers...most flower deliveries require a phone # for the recipient.   That said…I put out a post a few days ago requesting information that was incomplete on the directory. I received NO responses from that request except from Dawn & Linda V. All of those who did not respond will not be invited to participate in the Secret Elf program. We elves need accurate information.

It is an expectation that to participate, that you remember your drawn name at least once per month. How you do that is at your discretion....ecard, snail card, small gift, ect. I do request that EVERY month NOT be ecards though. We all like to actually have something to hold..you know?

And what happens if you can't? If something comes up that you are unable to fulfill your 'elfly duties'...I just ask that you drop me an email or give me a call so that I can make arrangements for the one who has your name to start getting for the person you had instead. Not a problem. If you contact me, you will still be eligible to participate in the future. BUT....if you just quit doing for the person...and I email you to find out why...and you don't respond or respond with 'excuses 101'...I will disqualify you from being able to participate in the future. It just isn't fair for the person's name you have drawn and I don't want anyone else to go through that in the future.   And what if you had a crappy one and didn’t receive anything…or at least, not one thing a month? Email me. I will try to contact the person to see if something came up. I’m sure mine thought I dropped off the face of the earth when I was in the hospital for a month. There have been other instances similar to mine..one had a heart attack. So…not every time is intentional. If I have seen something on the board that could be why…I’ll try to let you know as much as I can without giving away who it is.

I do not and will not bar someone from participating who could not do something EVERY month because of health issues, financial issues, etc…PROVIDED that those are communicated to me as soon as they are able to and they do try to do something for their person for the remaining draw period.   And if I never get a response or do get an ‘Excuse 101’? I put that name on a ‘disqualified’ list. Yeah…like Santa, I have ‘lists’ and check them twice. Lol. I use a program called Elfster to invite people to participate, etc, It automatically sends an invite to everyone who was invited in previous draws (in addition to the new names I add). For those on the disqualified list, I go in and enter a ‘decline’ for them.

For those who decide for themselves not to participate, I keep a separate list so that I know that the decline was their decision, not mine, so that they remain eligible to participate in future draws should they decide to. You do not have to tell me if you want to participate or not. If you are on the Hoosier Directory with an accurate email addy, you will be invited. If you are on my ‘naughty’ list, I will enter a ‘decline’ for you. Otherwise, that choice is entirely up to you.  

Elfster…terrific little program! Once you are familiar with it for this exchange, you may choose to set up an exchange of your own for work or for your family Christmas exchanges. You can communicate with other elves and they not know your identity. And…the things on your profile…wish list, answered questions, etc…they stay there from exchange to exchange so that future elves can use that information about you to better buy for you!  

I hope this has answered all your questions about the secret elf exchange.

There is NO DOLLAR AMOUNTS. No minimum, no maximum. It is whatever you feel you can do. Like I said..once per month. If it’s a broke month, send an ecard…there are a lot of free sites. If it’s income tax return, send something more special if you’d like. If you happen to be by Deals, pick up a card or two. Most of all, have fun with it & try to get to know your drawn name better. I had Holly this past 6 months. I try to read what everyone writes..but I paid special close attention to Holly’s posts so that I could better know what she was going through, etc.  

I will be setting up the next draw in January…after Floyd sends out the next Hoosier Directory revision. I set up each draw to last a duration of 6 months…that way, if your elf isn’t so good..be patient. 6 months isn’t that long!

Okay...

We all hear about the good elves....I need to know who needs to be added to the 'naughty' list...and why. I will get this started..and PLEASE, put it here in this thread, not in a PM and not in my email. Let's let our elves know that they didn't do such a good job or what they could have..should have done better...k? And people...let's not be petty. I just need to know who to decline...k?

I will get the ball rolling.

My elf did fantastic in June & July. I had gotten a wonderful egame from them that I am still enjoying to this day. But...I have not gotten a single thing since then. I truly hope thay are okay but no, I do not feel that they should be allowed to participate in the future.

WELL MY ELF WAS OK. I GOT 2 SMALL GIFT CARDS . I LOVE AND A CARD THAT SAID" HAVE FUN WITH THIS WITH JIM" BUT UMMM WAS NOTHING IN IT BUT AN EMPTY SAMPLE CARD OF A PURFUME FROM AVON. NOT SURE WHAT THAT WAS ALL ABOUT . JIM AND I LOOKED AT EACH OTHER AND JUST KIND OF SHRUGGED.
THAT WAS IT NOTHING ELSE NO ECARDS ( WHICH I LOVE) BUT HEY YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON . AND THATS OK.

My Elf confused me. 

A day before my wedding sent me a white box. However, I had to pay 75cents to the PostMater before she'd let me have it. SO I paid her and went to unwrap my box and it was a box of water flavers for bottle water. I don't use bottle water.... I have one of those cold water machines. I was a little disappointed. 

A month after I got married I got a snail mail card from my elf congratulating me. 

 

Then I diddn't recieve anything until the end of October. A snail card wishing me Happy Hallooween. 

 

Then nothing - UNTIL Sherri posted about elves should be doing their job and etc.... I recieved and e card simply saying Hello. 

 

And not.... Nothing Else

 

Though it looks like my elf tried..... it... well... sucked and I was disappointed seeing how this was the first time I signed up for the secret elf program.  I don't think my elf shouldn't be allowed to participate until her life is a little more organzied and she can FULLY participate.

And I would like to note.... it really makes me feel personally bad that so many sucked and we have to do this. If they had just called Sherri and said, "I'm sorry I reallly can't do this right now.". How simple to do that. All well - those that were bad elves.... maybe asking other elves how they were able to do it so well may help. I don't know. 

Ok I did not respond because my name was not on the list, but I did just send info to Floyd.  I would love to play a secret elf would just need some directions from the head elf!!!!

Only the names whose info was incorrect or incomplete ...or I got my test email back as undeliverable were included in that list. If you got my test email a few days ago, you are good to go to get an invite (read my beginning post on this thread).
