how long did it take some of you to lose weight after surgery
It takes time. Some times you are gonna loose really fast. Sometimes you aren't going to loose anything. Sometimes you are ONLY gonna loose inches. Sometimes you even gain a little back. The average "time" or "goal time" that your surgeon has for you is one year to 18 months. So just sit back and use your tool and watch what it will do for ya!
Blessings

Jeanna plese don't let yourself be upset by you lack of weight loss this early out. The morning of surgery I weighed in at 254 at my one month check up I weighed in at 246 so nine lbs loss my first month. I have stayed steady at 8 - 10 lbs weight loss per month. I let myself get so upset that the weight wasn't falling off of me like it seemed to be for everyone else. I became depressed and just a pissy person.
At my one month appt I remember crying and telling my surgeon something must be wrong. He assured me since I was considered a "lightweight" I could expect to lose at a slower rate and to stop coming into his office and sitting in the waiting room comparing notes with other patients (he didn't know I was doing it daily on OH). He proceeded to remind me that by losing 10 lbs a month I would be to my goal weight in less than a year, something I could have never achieved without surgery. He also reminded me that 10 lbs is 10% of my excess weight lost in a month thats an awesome rate. Anyway this is something they don't prepare you for pre op, and its hard to come to terms with it but try to understand that you have been given a most wonderful gift with this tool and you are closer to your goal weight today then you have been for a very long time, maybe even a lifetime. You will get there, but in your bodys time...not your minds time. Hang in there sweety, your going to be ok, you will look back at this time in your life six months from now and realize you worried for nothing. You just sit back realax and do what your surgeon and nutritionist tell you to do and you will get to your goal weight and stay there for life....how awesome is that?????
There is still hope that you won't have to be a slow loser and will blow through the lbs like a whirlwind, its way too early to tell. The first month or two things are so crazy with your body, its hard to go through such a major surgery and then stop the nutrition your body is used to getting. I remember at week three I stopped losing and didn't lose another ounce for three weeks..talk about discouraging. Do youself a favor and get rid of your scale, its just not worth having one, you can weigh when you see your surgeon. I don't own a scale, I don't get hung up on numbers anymore. Set some short term goals for yourself, and work on those to keep your mind from dwelling on numbers. My goal is to be at 199 by new years, I am at 203. I am down from a size 24 to a size 18, when I walk into a room I am not the biggest one in the room anymore, thats a dream come true for me. Keep your chin up!
I remember thinking as a pre op rny patient that if I had my surgery July 23rd (which I did) I would probably be close to my goal weight by christmas...........well its almost christmas and I have lost 51 of the 110 lbs. Am I disappointed by that? You bet!!! Am I ok with it? You bet!! I do what I know is the right thing to do 98% of the time so I have no alternative but to be successful if I continue doing the right thing.

33 lbs lost prior to surgery!
Jeanna, Jeannie gave you some GREAT advice. I don't know what you have to lose, as we never talked about it, but I will be losing a couple of PEOPLE (or at least one adult and an elementary school kid!!)!!! Because of that, it's probably no wonder I am losing faster than you RIGHT NOW. I'll slow down - it's inevitable. But by no stretch of the imagination can I be considered a lightweight when it comes to the surgery. I will be losing more than half of my body weight to get where I want to be. I only hope I can do it with this tool.
Jeanna,
Oh yes- it was for me. I hold water, & had gained 12 # from surgery! I walked down the hall at 271# & 2 weeks later-nothing! I do know it was water & gas- whew, when I finally dropped weight I felt it-
hee~hee!!! Seriously, don't get uptight about what the scales are saying. Your body has just undergone major surgery & a overhauling. You will lose weight, it is just alittle slower for some of us than others. It took me alittle over 18 months to lose 100# & some people do it in much shorter time. I just wanted you to know that we all are differant & our bodies lose differantly.(I was 57 when I had my surgery- which I found out has alittle to do with it as well. My metabolism isn't young
anymore- darn
!! I was told to stay off the scales for the month and then see what happened- &I lost those 12# + 2 more!!! Don't compare yourself to anyone else- that is a trap that leads to serious issues-emotionally ,physically, & spiritually-I KNOW!!!! I am here for you, pm. me if you'd like to vent/chat/ or cry- just
