ATTN: Sherri, look what I found!!!!
Jeanie,
Thanks. I saw your post during the night (I think it was my 2 am potty trip) and it said that ID # was gone already. Bill has been checking on PetFinder just about every day I think. We were suppose to have a 'home visit' today by one agency that requires that before you are allowed to 'adopt'. She had to cancel so Bill is going to see if she can be here in the morning.
Thanks again!

NO they are not gone, there is an entire litter at the humane society down here. I just checked and they are still there. Maybe follow this link http://www.mchumanesoc.org/ directly to the humane society and then search "available pets". They are so cute and definatly perfect for training. If you want to go look I will meet up with you and take you over there I know the director and have worked with them a lot in the past. I have the best most wonderful dog from our shelter. He is better behaved than my other two lol.

Jeanie,
Following that link and putting in German Shepards as the breed brought up alot of dogs. The ones at the Humane Shelter, we went and checked out last Friday. The shelter on S. Harding, we've been at a few times. Bill won't even consider a puppy. Not that I blame him. With his vision, he's afraid that he'll run into it and break it's neck. He definately needs one that is big enough & smart enough to be able to get out of Bill's path. We also need it house trained. The problems we've ran into so far is either they are too hyper (with my stomach & Bill's eyes, we can't have them jumping up on us), not house broken, not good around kids, or do not travel well. The Humane Shelter ticked me off actually (some feedback for the director there). We saw several online that their description would be perfect so we drove all the way there to find out that no, they were not house broken. On one, they had put that they were good with kids but when we questioned the person there, we were told that they didn't know how he would behave with kids but wanted someone to bring their kids in so they could find out! My grandkids will not be used as guinie pigs for them! So...I'm willing to go to the County shelter on Harding but not the Humane Shelter. Not when they don't know how to be honest online about the animals.
We saw alot of puppies at both shelters and they are so darn adorable. I use to breed min pins, toy & teacup poodles, and poms. It is so difficult for me to walk away from a puppies cage! But until I am retired and will be home to be sure the pup gets house trained..and that it stays out of Bill's foot path, it is safer where it is. It's really cute though how they are naming them after the reindeers. The country shelter got into the spirit and is naming theirs after Christmas things too..Noel, Holly, Mistletoe, etc.

I would say your best bet is to then go through a rescue organization. The dogs they have are living in homes with foster parents who know all about the dogs and what their strengths / weakness would be. Any reliable rescue organization will be absolutly honest with you about the dogs they have in foster care because they want to make a good match so that the dog doesn't come back to foster care.
Sounds like you and Bill are doing a good search and something will show up for you when you least expect it. Thats how I have ended up with all three of my dogs...when I wasn't looking lol. I am having a hard time not going to the shelter and getting one of the shepard mixes myself lol. I would love to have a big dog to walk and swim with me but I really don't have a proper fence for a large dog and thats the only reason I havent gotten dressed and went to get one lol.
