Has anyone gotten sick with the flu since having surgery?

It could be a cold or the flu or something but it seems to have invaded my home.  My hubby was sick last week.  It never fails, he gets sick and in a few days he is fine.  Then I catch it and it last forever.  I usually get tonsilitis, I have always been anemic and my doctors never wanted to remove them.  So even as an adult, my tonsils swell up like grapefruit.  It is obvious that it is about to hit, the congestion, coughing, stuffed ears.  I started taking zicam and mucinex and pushing juice/tea.  Frankly, I'm not sure if I should be taking them now.  Is there a problem with taking over the counter stuff now?  Has anyone got any suggestions?  If I'm not better by Monday, I guess I will call the doctor but do I go to my primary physician?  Or bariatric surgeon?  Oh Brother...

I think I'd call the bariatric surgeon.  The surgeon can let you know if it is ok to take OTC stuff or whether it's ok to go to your regular doc.
