So Upset

I don't know how many of you remember my sister Marsha who was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy in July of 07.  I talked to her last night and was so angry and upset. 

She had a consult with a plastic surgeon about reconstructive surgery yesterday.  Turns out the surgeon who performed her and supposedly double mastectomy didn't!!!!!  According to the plastics Dr the cancer surgeon only did a partial mastectomy on both sides.  The plastics words were "he mutilated you".  To top it off, she (plastics Dr) said he was not supposed to be performing mastectomies any more because he had so many complaints against him!!! BUT the best part is he is the head of the oncology surgery department at the Arizona Cancer Institute. 

She had a lot of complications from that surgery and ended up in the hospital three times with staff infections that he said she didn't have until the incision sites both burst.  Even with filing a complaint about him and her care the institute claimed everything was fine and there were no problem they could see.   

Marsha said she thought the way her chest looked he just did a botched up job removing the breasts.  But I guess all he did was scoop out or cut out the outer part of the breast, not a full mastectomy to the chest wall or however it is supposed to be done.  The plastics Dr asked about her follow up care and how much chemo she had.  NONE!  Marsha thought that was the way it was supposed to be done.  Turns out NOT.  This Dr said she should have had follow ups plus at least 6 months of chemo. 

Needless to say if I could get the cancer surgeon alone in a locked room for 15 minutes and was given more strength than he had, I'd beat him up one side and down the other to say the least.

Sorry to be so long and rambling, but if you will please, add her to your prayers.  She is so scared about facing "another" double mastectomy and not knowing if all the cancer was gotten the first time what the results will be.  She's my baby sister and my best friend.

I will pray for your sister and im so sorry this happened to her.
Lets hope the fool doesnt do this to any one else.
I dont have a sister but i would feel the way you do about yours,be there for her.

 OMG!! That is horrible to find out!!  Your sister will be in my thoughts and prayers.  Man, I am always amazed at the screw up some doctors can get away with. I can't imagine how your sister must feel. This is her LIFE he was messing with!  It is a good thing she found out though.  Which is the good part of all of this.  Maybe she can contact her state representative or senator about this.  Someone needs to know this that can do something about this doctor before he can do this to someone else.

Oh Sweety, it sounds liker she definately has  cause for a huge lawsuit! My prayers are that they find no cancer & are able to restore her to the best of their ability. I am home if you need someone to call or cry with. I can't even imagine what Marsha is going thru,but know I am keeping her in my thoughts & prayers. You,too.

I'm so sorry that had to happen to your sister, but I agree that mastectomy doctor needs to have the snot beat out of him!! 

I'll keep her in my prayers that everything will be okay!

GET AN ATTORNEY! THIS IS MED MAL PRACTICE..... BIG TIME!

This is horrible and an outrage against medical practice not to mention specialty medicine and surgeons. This man is protected or he would not have the position he has in status. You need to contact the Arizona QIO and have an investigation into this matter. I work at a QIO (only in Administration) but still I know enough to know that what our business is about is to help the patient. I know nothing about Arizona QIO's but you need to call and find out what you can or convince your sister to investigate her case with a QIO, Quality Improvement Specialist.
