My secret Elf......I wanna keep her!
OMG, Andrea I received my package today. Wow...Tyler, is gonna love the jacket. That was absolutly amazing...I sure do not want to give you up next draw....I know I have too. ( stomping feet and pouting) Whoever is your next sceret pal will absolutely br spoiled. You are wonderful person and you are so beyond generous and thoughtful, I am absolutely stunned by what you sent me but also my kids. WOW!!!!! You are such a special person. Christmas here will be pretty tight so I am gonna hold onto those gifts and give them to them on Christmas so they will have more to open than they would but I will definitly let them know that it's from there secret pal and Not santa.May You be blessed in all that you do na dplease update us on your progress. I would love to know what you have done since surgery.....xoxoxo

Shanna, thank you so much but hey you are pretty amazing yourself, I hope he likes the jacket, saw that in the store and told hubby hey I think that is the team Tyler likes, and I sent Bella things all 6 months, think I will go ahead and get it for him. Hope it will fit. Wish I could do more with it being Christmas, but right now I just cant, but believe me I will neve forget you and your family and will keep in touch.

I get my protein in by making the shakes, I get about 45 or 50 ounces of water then if you had the two shakes I am getting plenty of fluid, I am getting about 20 to 30 minutes of exercise in. I walk, then ride my exercise bike but I have not lost anything for 2 weeks. Maybe it will start coming off.
I am not eating a whole lot, I eat cottage cheese, SF pudding and broth. I have tried the canned meats, tuna, ham and chicken and I feel terrible after eating them so I always go back to the cottage cheese.
Any how enough rambling, I hope you get a super good elf next time because you truly deserve it.

I know you put this message out to Shanna so I hope you don't mind me sticking my nose in. I try to read all the ones that have to do with elfs.
37 pounds in 8 weeks! That is fantastic!! Don't compare yourself to what others have lost. Each of our journies are our own. Those who have lost 50 lbs in 8 weeks are usually the 'heavy weights'...those who had 3-400 lb to lose. Those who are right at 100 lb overweight may only lose 25 lbs in that time period. The more you weight...the quicker you initially lose. Also..males lose quicker. Unfair I know, but that's our bodies.
You can ask the nuts about what amounts of nutrients you should get in. I was told early on that to continue to lose weight, I should get: 1000-1200 calories, +100 g of carbs with AT LEAST 30 g being fiber, less than 30 g fat, and at least 64 oz of water. I've also read that to calculate how much water your body should take in, divide your weight by half. So...if you weigh 300 lb, you should get in 150 oz. I count my water as anything that is low in calories (so I do not count my protein drinks as 'water'), no carbonation, and no caffiene. I usually get in +60 g of protein also. Until I was comfortable at knowing I was estimating my foods fairly close, I kept track of everything in SparkPeople.com. Remember that if you don't get in enough calories, your body will think you are starving it and will not release any pounds. That is why it is important to get in a minimum of 1000 calories per day. Also, many people try to avoid carbs like it is a plague. Our bodies need carbs. The fiber helps us to stay regular, yes...but carbs keep us from going into ketosis (symptom: nasty taste in your mouth). Someone who is in ketosis is not burning fat..they are burning muscle. You NEED your muscles! If you get that blah! taste, try drinking 8 oz of light Welch's grape juice a day for ~3 days. That usually takes care of it. If it doesn't, call your nuts.
now..back on to the subject! Thank you for being such a good elf. I sure wish everyone who participated did as good as you! Shoot..I'd be happy if they had all done half as good as you! Thanks again.

Sherry no problem, I usually just lurk but I am trying to be better. You would never know from here but at work I am an outgoing person, love to talk and laugh but for some reason I am shy when I do not tend to know people so I think that is why I lurk more then post.
But any who I know I am not getting even close to 1000 calaries a day maybe if I am lucky 5 to 6 hundred. I am trying so hard to follow the yellow sheets that ST. V gave us and I find no carbs on this list at all. I am suppose to be having 3 ounces of protein, one ounce of fruit, one ounce vegetable and one ounce starch but that is not happening. I do get the 3 ounces of protein but once I eat my protein I am full. I will remember to not count my protein shakes as liquid, and will try to up that, I think I better also get some light welchs grape juice because I am probably in ketosis because yes I have that nasty taste in my mouth, some days its like a metal taste.
Also about the secret elf it was a lot of fun for me, but then Shanna made it fun about 3 months into our 6 months I happen to be up around Camby, (my daughter lives on the South side of Indy) so my husband decided to go by the DQ that Shanna works at *thank goodness I had not had my surgery yet) and any how I was lucky enough that Shanna was at work. She seemed so nice and I could not help it but I introduced myself so she has known for a couple of months her her secret elf was but that was ok she is really a sweet person, I hope someday I can meet the rest of her family and others on here also.

I remember when I use to be shy & backward around people I didn't know. Not any more! LOL! Well..not nearly as much anyway. I do hope you are able to make it to some of the get-togethers that we have so you can feel more comfortable online as well. The next time you are going to be up visiting your daughter, let us know and maybe some of us can meet you for dinner near where your daughter lives. I do believe we have several members here who lives in Clinton & Terre Haute..so setting up a get together near Dana would probably get some takers too.

Yes..I remember how VERY little there was in Dana! LOL! And unless you want high calorie pasta in Clinton, you might as well keep driving. lol! We were frequent visitors to Terre Haute when I lived in Clinton. I remember trying to buy my first web cam! LOL! I should have just drove to Indy to get one...at least they wouldn't have been shocked that you could actually buy a camera to plug into your pc! LOL!
Are you still doing protein drinks? I would be hesitant to tell anyone 'don't eat protein'. If you are getting in 3 oz of protein in a meal, for every meal though, you might want to cut it back just a little bit (especially if you are drinking protein drinks) and try to get in some of the nutrients from the starches/veggies/fruits. Those nutrients are very improtant to a healthy body too. First though, I'd track what you are doing right now in what ever software you like (Dailyplate, sparkpeople, calorieking, FitDay, etc). After you do that for a few days, you should be able to better judge what you can/should tweak. If you aren't getting in any starches/veggies/fruits, that isn't healthy either. When you get to the stage that you are allowed a snack, you might want to try Fiber one cereal (the original, not the bunches, clusters, or whatever it's called). It has 14 g of fiber per 1/2 cup. I put 1 c in a baggie (28 g of fiber) and munch on it in the evenings, dry..like it's popcorn. It satisfies my wanting to crunch on something and at the same time giving me some much needed fiber. It's usually fairly easy to get 2 more grams in fruits or veggies. And...since fiber is carbs, it counts toward that count as well and will help keep you out of ketosis.
If you have any questions or doubts though, always feel free to contact your dieticians. Their advise was covered in your WLS bill...so take advantage of it! I know that the mantra is 'protein first'...but it shouldn't be 'protein only'..not at every meal anyway.

Andrea, girl, be proud! You're averaging almost 5 lbs. per week, do you realize that? I know we all want it off TOMORROW, but it sounds like you're doing everything right. It will come off, I promise!
