i'm scared of the nurses when in hospital
Jeanna,
You will be in the bariatric floor. The nurses aren't mean and they are very accustomed to dealing with morbid & super morbidly obese people...including all of their co-morbidities that go along with it. They know you aren't going to be up to doing a 100 yard dash. They (and your surgeon) do expect you to TRY to walk ~every 2 hours. They do not expect you to go great distances or in quick time.
You will be amazed at how much your ten minute at a time will creep up to 12 minutes..then 15...then 20...and so on.

Jeanna - our surgeries are on the same day. C'mon - I'll help you! Any movement you can do will please them I'm sure. It's not really about pleasing them - it's keeping us from getting blood clots.
My surgery's at 11 AM - what time is yours? If yours is early, wait on me!! LOL
When you get to your room, just ask the nurses where Chris is... LOL

Ok Jeanna - we're doing this together! My surgery is also at 11 AM, so we're going in together. What doctor is your physical with? All that happened at mine was he talked to me and got a thorough medical history - all surgeries, when I began having periods, etc. He typed it all into a laptop computer. Then he got up, looked in my eyes and ears, and listened to my heart and lungs. That was it!
I'm glad your CT scan was fine - the pre op tests I think are the most important. I'm over 50, so I have to have a cardiac stress test. That's what's scaring me the most. I just got word that I'm to have that done on 11/25. I call tomorrow to make the appointment for my mammogram, and that's it.
I haven't heard anything on my pre op tests, so they must have been ok.
No need to be nervous at all over the physical. It's mainly to get your medical history. Trust me, the pre op tests are what put us through our paces!
Like I said, we'll walk together! You'll have to PM me your last name so I can find you on the bariatric ward, ok?
Hang in there hon - don't get too nervous!

Don't stress yourself over it. As long as you get up and move around... it will be fine. I couldnt walk far at all the first couple times especially. I walked across the room to the door and back the first time. They were fine with that. The speed you walk is not important, the distance is not important.... just that you are moving around and trying. They are all so very kinda up there and the other patients are awesome too. I made so many new friends just hobbling around the hallway. Keep in mind you will still have your IV to drag around or prop yourself up with for a while. LOL....
You will do fine. They are the best nurses I have ever had... truthfully.

Like everyone else is saying....everyone is different. The nurses realize that fact. I only walked twice.....I'm not very proud of that. But I react differently from anesthesia. I slept almost the entire time. They walked me very patiently the times I did walk. I know 2 of the nurses personally...one leads the support group in Frankfort and is a true doll! The other I go to church with and she is so sweet and kind and loving. You will not have any problems. But if you do, be sure to tell them. You have to be your voice!
