3 days post op
Thanks for all of the helpful advice on my last post.
My surgery went really well. It barely took an hour and i walked a mile worth of laps the first night. I also got to come home on Tuesday evening, barely 24 hours after surgery.
Heres the "question" i have, alhough it's pretty mych hust me wondering about a few things.
I had Dr. Jones, and she is AMAZING! She put me on a clear liquid diet unti I see her next and I am just wondering if that is something she does normally. AND if Jones put you on the same diet, did you follow it strictly or did you use variations (let me tell ya, theres not always room for Jell-O)
I also had to come home with my drain tube in, which is really the only thing bothereing me, I think I am afraid that it will get caught on something and get pulled out. OUCH!!
If anyone has any pre-op advice for me in general, LAY IT ON ME!! It will be welcomed warmly!
Thanks,
Katie A FArthing

I didn't have a clear liquid diet after I got home, but if I recall, sugar-free jello is considered a clear liquid.
Don't fret over the drain tube, it is longer than you think and it would take more than just a small tug to remove it.
Don't feel bad about calling the Dr's office with questions, that is what they are there for.

I can eat as much as I want...I just don't want much.
I'm ashamed of what I did for a Klondike bar...
Katie, Good job on your walking and getting thru it so well. I pretty much had the same experience. The clear liquid deal is because the incision inside your pouch needs time to heal. The drain tube isn't such a big deal. Did you come home with your binder too? I wore it to secure my drain tube. There is about 18 to 20 inches of that tube inside you. It's not going to fall out, believe me. If you are too worried about it, get some medical tape and secure it to yourself a little higher up the tube by the ball. I just used my waistband and binder to do it.
You will do just great. Be sure to take some pain meds about an hour before you appt. when you go back to get the tube out. It wasn't all that bad but it was a little unnerving. Some people say it was painful. I just thought it made me a little uneasy and nauseated.
You are gonna do so good!
Take care!

I am post op 10 days. I think am a lot older than you so I was in the hospital 2 nights and 3 days. I was on clear liqit until the day after I came home then on soft foods the 4 week diet. I also had Dr Jones she is amazing. I am doing well but still not able to walk a lot yet every day I feel better
Congratulatons Katie and welcome home! Sounds like you''re getting along fabulously! I'm sure the walking really helps too!
Since I'm still preop, I can't give you a whole lot of advice, but one thing that sticks out to me is about the drain tube. When you go back to get it removed, take pain meds prior to having it out...it'll lessen your ouch!
All the best to ya!
