bad pre op results

something wrong with chest x ray, have to to get a cat scan, and something is wrong with upper gi, have to get an endostomy.  what is an endostomy?  does this mean i can't have surgery?

I think the procedure you are referring to is an endoscopy. You get a nice little ****tail via IV. You pretty much go in lala land. You aren't put to sleep per se' but since you are getting an amnesia drug in the ****tail, you think you did. They put a camera down your throat...which is why you can't be put to 'sleep'. You have to be able to swallow the camera/tubing when they instruct you to...but you don't remember doing it. With this camera, they can take a look at upper portion of your GI system & take pictures while they are in there.

I would try not to worry about it. It, the x-ray, and the CT scan are precautions. Just be thrilled that the hospital is being cautious...it's all for your safety. The worse thing about those three tests...besides the waiting for the results...is them having to start the IV for the endo.

Jeanna, so sorry your test results weren't 100%.  I'm sure there's nothing wrong - maybe they just couldn't see things as well as they would like.  That's what we'll claim!

At least they notified you quickly of any problems.  I'm sure it'll get taken care of in plenty of time for surgery to go as planned.

As for my tests today, they went pretty well.  We had problems with the blood work.  The nurse got one gold tube out of my arm and the vein collapsed.  The other 7 tubes were taken out of my hand - ouch!

Now the upper GI - OMG - I don't ever want to have to do that again if I can keep from it!  Why can't they make that barium taste like a thick chocolate shake or something???  It was all I could do to hold it down.  Ugh.
