OMG - it's actually happening!

I got a call last week giving me a surgery date and time, and telling me to schedule my physical and pre op class.  I've done that.  I e-mailed the office manager to ask about pre op testing - she told me they were trying to get the date and time worked out.

Ok - fine.  Tonight I get home to a voice mail message asking me to call St. V's to pre-register for 11/12!  My pre op testing is on 11/12 - I have received NO paperwork, nothing.  The lady in registration told me what time to be there, and luckily told me that I needed to be fasting.

I won't be seeing my surgeon till the morning of the surgery.  Just seems a little scary.  I've only seen him the evening of the consultation.

I am assuming I don't need to do a pre op diet.  I hope someone communicates something to me!!

I am not a st v's patient but I think not seeing the surgeon again is quite common.  I have seen lots of conversations about this topic on the main board and that seems to be the way it goes.  I seen my surgeon at orientation, then a one on one meeting the same day, then again for the second time the morning of surgery.

Christy,

Congrats and good luck. Just wanted to let you know that we did not see Dr Cacucci either except for consultation and morning of surgery. I thought it was a little strange too but went fine. We saw her then one week post surgery and will see her again in 5 more weeks.

Your time will go soooo fast now!!

Good luck again!!

Thanks Connie and Jeannie!  At least I know I'm not alone and that this is normal.

Just seems to me that with surgery this major, the doctor would see you at least once before you are nekkid except for a hospital gown and in a hospital room!  I will do my best to relax now that I know this is the usual procedure.

My next big hurdle is to be sure I pass all my pre op tests.  I was a smoker for years, and quit cold turkey the day I got my date.  Hopefully, I'll pass the nicotine tests and I'll be able to proceed.  I am so proud of myself for doing it and not backsliding.

Good for you on the quit smoking!!! Proud of you...so thankful that Joe and I were never smokers.

You will at least get to see the doc in your waiting room before they walk you to OR. haha.

You will do fine...

It is totally normal.  I did not see Dr. Gupta until right before surgery.  I went to pre-op testing and my all day nutrition class.  During the class, I was informed what to eat before surgery.  They also provided a binder with all of the information.  Everything will be fine.  Before you know it.... you will be on the other side.  I had my surgery on Wednesday and could have come home on Thursday.  But I did not do well with the first dose of liquid Loritab (painkiller); it made be sick.  So I left on Friday instead with a prescription for a different painkiller and everything has been fine.  I stopped taking the painkillers in a few days.  By Monday, I was walking around our subdivision with our beagle Samantha.

I have had other surgeries in my life and this by far has been the easiest and quickest recovery.
