Update on us
Here's an update on our upcoming surgeries. Hubby Lyn had to meet with Linda the nurse last week and everything was good for him to proceed with surgery.
I called BC yesterday---we have our BC from MI since that is where he retired from. When I called and asked if there was any progress on our approval they said that bariatric surgery did not need pre authorization. I told them that I had a letter from BC saying that we needed to meet the criteria--BMI, 6 mo supervised diet, psych eval and etc and then a letter would be sent to the DR. THey said, no pre auth is needed. I spoke to 3 different people--kept calling back and asking the same thing. I then spoke with Dr Huse's office and the pre auth lady there said she had called BC and they said since we were out of state that no pre auth was needed and we were all set for a surgery date to be given, pre op tests and etc. I questioned her and the ins about "What if my documentation isn't as good as what you want"? Told them I had heard horror stories about this. Again, it was --"we cannot guarentee payment even with a pre auth and as long as you have everything no pre auth is needed."
So as far as Dr Huse's office goes, we are ready to proceed but I just am nervous about the insurance. I have BC primary and Lyn is Mcare primary---I just hate to have the surgery then find out something isn't exactly like they want.
We went to our first support group last night at Bloomington., There were about 15 of us in the parking lot including probably about 8-10 new first time people. We waiting for 45 minutes and finally left then found out today that they had cancelled last night's and rescheduled for next week. I guess they emailed people and put it in the St V's newsletter which we do not get. So hopefully we can work it out to go next week.
By the way, how do we get the newsletter?
Anyway that is where we stand on our journey. Still trying to decide if we will do it together or 2 or 3 weeks apart. Dr Huse says together is fine, Linda and Dr Stote recommend since Lyn is high risk and may need extra care that we do it separate which is probably what we will do. Just not sure who will go first. They have also asked if we have a choice do we want it before Christmas or do we want one last CHristmas with normal eating. We are both so ready to have it done we told them asap. RIght decision???
Thanks for listening, Terry

they usually meet the 1st Wednesday of the month but had to change it this month due to activities at the church. 6:30 to 8 pm
It will now be next week.
Sounds like it is an active group--we kinda did a support talk in the parking lot.
Hope to see you there, we are going to try to go.

Terry,
We so relate!!! It would scare me about the insurance.
I was not even really comfortable when I got the actual letter from the insurance. But here we are.
Whatever you and Lynn decide on doing it together or apart it will be the right one for you.
Glad to hear you made it to your support meeting. They really help. We actually have one starting here in our home town this month. So glad.
I would like to know how to get the newsletter also.
Anyway, good luck with your decision--we will be thinking of you guys!!!
