Protein Suggestions
I'm wondering if anyone has some alternate protein suggestions, aside from the shakes. I am NOT a shake person, and I can't do the dry milk mixture. I can't get anywhere near the protein I need, and I noticed when I got out of the shower this morning, I'm starting to lose some hair.
Is there something out there that is colorless, odorless and clear? Something I could add to my crystal light and not tell it's in there?
Any and all suggestions appreciated.
Thank You

There are so many options for protein out there, but it can take a while to find something that works for you. I have used Bariatriceating.com and Vitalady.com and purchased samples so I could try a variety of things.
As for something that is not a shake type drink -- GNC carries a product called Isopure which is a clear drink in fruit type flavors. Some people don't mind the taste, others don't care for it. For me, in the immediate post-op period I could tolerate it better than some other milk-based options but I would not choose to use it now.
Also, there are the Nectar brands of protein drinks that come in fruit flavors and mix up similiar to juices. Vitamin Shoppes in Indy carry them. They have flavors like Strawberry Kiwi and Roadside Lemonade that can also be mixed with Crystal Light. The Bariatic Eating website has some suggestions on how to mix things to come up with different flavors.
I also enjoy Champion Whey Stack protein (can be purchased at Vitamin Shoppe, or samples from Vitalady.com) I don't mix it with milk, only water -- I don't care for the taste of milk and don't want the extra sugar that comes with the milk. I also add Davinci and Torani sugar-free syrups to give it a different flavor (my fav is hazelnut).
There are some "flavorless" protein powders out there, I know GNC has one. I can say I don't think they are truely flavorless, there is still a protein taste to them, but it may still be something you can mix with Crystal Light and work for you.
I also prefer to use a milk frother -- which is basically a battery powered wisk -- to mix my protein drinks. It is quick and easy without getting too much air in there like a blender would.
Keep working until you can find a tolerable protein. And your tastes and tolerances will continue to change over time. What you can't stand today may be your favorite a few months from now! Don't give up! This is a life-long change and giving up is no longer an option! Your health depends on it. I am 2 years post-op and still drink 2 protein drinks each day and look at it as part of my vitamin routine -- necessary for good health, even if I don't always feel like drinking it.
Hope this helps!
Good Luck,
Jennifer

You can find some limited flavors at the grocery stores, but the best variety and cheapest place that I find them is at Cost Plus World Market in Carmel. I can usually find them on sale for 4.99 for the large bottles. I know TJ Maxx Homegoods also has them at times too.
Try the Click advertised on OH. I make mine with milk, and it tastes like a hot chocolate/coffee combination. It really is delicious, and when made with milk a couple of mugs will give you about 25 grams of protein.
I also used to make scrambled eggs with "super milk" (the nonfat dry milk made with milk instead of water). That really gives you a boost too. I'm with you on the protein shakes, most of them are awful, and I REALLY couldn't stand the Isopure.
Keep looking, your protein is really important!
Good luck,
Jenny
I like the ISOPURE protein drink. I got mine at GNC. They are a clear or lightly colored drink in several fruit flavors. I poured mine over shaved ice for a slush type drink. 40 grams of protein per bottle.

I can eat as much as I want...I just don't want much.
I'm ashamed of what I did for a Klondike bar...
